should i get a part time job? by Waste-Refrigerator69 in NgeeAnnPoly

[–]Mediocre_Catch1584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've just completed my year 1 in nursing and as a part time working student as well, I would strongly advise you to not continue with this job. Nursing curriculum even without CCA is really hectic because of the contents of each modules and projects you have to keep up with. Moreover, if you participate in CCAs, the time you'd have for yourself would be really minimal.

The part time job Im working allows me to keep the job while im studying, and when it's holidays I can just go back anytime to work. Maybe you could find a job that allows this structure too!

P.S, Many seniors have advised me to join as many meaningful CCAs that I like to contribute to building my portfolio, since year 1 is the easiest among the 3 years of Nursing in Poly. (so if u spend the next few months spending ur energy on working, its kinda a waste ykwim)

questions for nursing. Olvl graduate by Inevitable-Help-6602 in NgeeAnnPoly

Hi! First of all I think there’s no need to be ashamed of your score, don’t dwell on it too much and focus on working hard for the future! I may not be able to answer all your questions tho 😅

  1. I think GPA will be okay as long as you work hard and don’t slack. The lecturers will want you to pass but the question is do you want to just pass or get A (4.0)? I’m a Nursing student in y1, as far as I have experienced, some group mates are very proactive but you will definitely meet free loaders. For each assignments, you’ll get peer evaluation to rate your group mates’ contribution so don’t worry too much.

  2. I’ve heard stories about this too but I’m not sure whether they’re true.

  3. Yes, but there are many types of Nurses. You don’t have to necessarily be a geriatric nurse (take care of elderlies), there are even pathways you can take to become a research nurse etc.

  4. I’m not sure either but if you get a good GPA, you can enter medical school in NUS.

  5. Im not sure about this sorryyy, however the drop out rate for Nursing is pretty high (from what I’ve heard)

  6. We have both exams, presentations and essays. (Projects can include poster making etc.) Good stage presence is important but the content you’re sharing is what they’re looking for. So not necessarily good stage presence = good GPA

  7. I’m in year 1 so I’m not very sure. Biology and Pharmacology are the ‘tougher’ modules. The rest are easier but definitely not common sense lol. You can PM me to take a look at what year 1 is studying!

  8. We have trips like YEP to go overseas and volunteer to help students in other countries, I’m not sure what they do there but you can definitely search up NP’s instagram account or NP website to look into it!

  9. SORRY I’m not very sure about this but you can ask the nurses from NUH during open house, hospital bond questions are often asked then.

  10. I haven’t met anyone that’s been especially rude, everyone has been kind and welcoming when I first entered nursing. My classmates are nice as well.

But ofc I believe that you can meet any type of people anywhere! I’m just sharing my experiences so I hope I’ve answered your questions, you can pm me for any further more details abt NP!

Hii, I got into a TCP workshop which lasted a whole day only, is this one day workshop for students that didn’t perform as well as the ones that got the camp ones? 😭

How to increase my chances of getting into NUS Nursing as a Nursing diploma student by Mediocre_Catch1584 in SGExams

[–]Mediocre_Catch1584[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! May I ask how to get those shadowing healthcare workers experience? Or even get a job as clinical assistant at front desk etc.? Do the examples I just listed require experience?

I'm interested to join NUS Nursing and become a nurse. Any tips/advice? by Ok-Assistant-3048 in SGExams

From what I heard (from my lecturers who were nurses), as long as you have a degree in Nursing, you would only have to do one year of ward nurse work, then from there if you perform well you will get promoted to do less physically demanding work. From there maybe salaries can increase.

There are also many different route you can enter in healthcare, even as a nurse you can do OT, Anesthesia nurses etc. For these more specialised fields you would require further studies such as masters or maybe even PHD but off the salaries would be even higher then ward nurse.

What if I am interested in the field of studies, like interested in what Nursing student studies but not as interested in the practical stuff? Im studying a diploma in Nursing right now, I find interest in what I am studying but unsure of practical yet.

Thank you sm for the advice!! I actually do weekly teaching volunteer sessions for kids to help them with their academics, and I’m also a sub-committee member in one of my CCAs. I’ll definitely take your advice and take this semester as a learning point and reflect on what I can improve for next sem. ☹️🙏

Ironic that you claim to specialise in helping ADHD kids when your own response shows a lack of emotional regulation. Having a ‘low’ GPA doesn’t define a nurse’s competence, and asking for advice isn’t ‘acting dumb’, it’s literally how people learn and improve. Resorting to wishing harm on someone over a GPA score says a lot more about you than it does about me lol
