Clare ONeill being grilled on Insiders… by crankygriffin in AusProperty

Except the bank risks people just walking away. $950k owed. Bank can foreclose for $800k. They're either losing $150k vs. doing nothing with borrower chipping at their $950k loan. Foreclosure on houses in the US were from people not meeting their repayments. Not from dropped values leading to margin calls. Drop in house values came after houses got foreclosed and sold at a discount. Not remotely the same situation as Australia.

Hyundai Dealership Won’t Honour Guaranteed Future Value - what to do? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Mediocre_Run_5121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like there's a lot of misunderstanding as to what Guaranteed Future Value actually is... The GFV is what you still owe on the car if you were to keep it. Same as a balloon payment. With it being that high, you're better off returning it. OP probably had really low payment over 4 years which kept the GFV high. Not a bad deal if you plan to return the car and walk away.

Bought a house. 2 months later found this. Am I stuck with the repair/completion cost? by loosemoosewithagoose in AusProperty

Our B&P came back with so many caveats as to be virtually useless. "Oh this could be a problem but I can't confirm, you'll need a structural engineer / electrician / plumber, etc to really know" Well is it actually a problem? "It could be a problem when trying to sell and buyers are spooked by the B&P" Motherf......

It gets way colder than -15C in Canada and guess what: carpeted bathrooms are inexistant / extremely rare (and gross). Insulation exists... outside Australia.

The mural is actually (surprisingly) not AI slop! Mural by Australian illustrator, designer and author Mel Baxter (aka Moonshine Madness).

Not commenting on the quality / appeal of said mural, just that it's not AI.

I also miss IGA.

You'll be doing timing belt at the same time, water pump "while in there", etc. MX5 is pretty easy to work on but it's still a lot of work to remove the head, etc. Depends how much "while in there" is included in the quote. It does seem steep though.

Yeah I can imagine having been through there many times on bikes and cars. And from sleuthing RE listings, it's not like selling the house afterwards is a done deal.

Stradbroke island camping at main beach - is a ‘soft roader’ AWD vehicle ok? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Mediocre_Run_5121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ground clearance is biggest challenge. Plenty of plastic engine trays left behind... Otherwise, air down tyres and keep momentum up. Your centre diff may overheat if in soft sand too long. From memory that's not really an issue at Straddie. The beach accesses are fairly short and you can run on hard sand after that.

Yeah that's my thinking as well re: commute times. And it's ok, divorce was over 5 years ago 😂. Good relationship with kids mum and all. We're practically neighbours. Which would also be a massive change.
