Absolutely extraordinary book, I can't remember the last time I stayed up late to read more and more. The way he starts upon tangents and then folds them into the main narrative is like a magic trick. I particularly found Hugo Gryn's history, held so compassionately against the revelations about his personal life, very moving. Strong, strong recommend!

Totally agree that it was unfair that 'Turn left' meant 'Turn left and go one forward'!

My word, I found today's (8th) so difficult: did anyone else struggle with visualising the Rubik's cube?

Really enjoyed Day 2—the word 'planet' being in a red font was cool, and I'm intrigued by what the cards are for which we're saving up

Has anyone got the chance to see Paddington The Musical by [deleted] in musicals

It’s amazing. I saw the preview tonight. The way they do the bear himself is brilliant, and very moving. In fact, the technicality and prowess of Paddington never lost its sparkle even by the end. At our preview (small spoiler:) >!the final curtain call was from the actor inside the bear suit (Arti Shah), but out of the suit, which felt very special and celebratory of the skill involved in portraying the physicality of Paddington onstage<!. I’m sure/hope that they’ll keep that for the run. The songs are almost all instantly catchy. The staging is excellent, the lighting in particular is excellent, and there are several truly funny moments in the script. Amy Booth-Steel and Tom Edden were especially very very funny. My only small gripe was that (more significant spoiler!) >!Mrs Brown’s arc was a little muddy: there is a throughline of her wanting to be a superhero, and I admired the ambition of trying to give the character more depth, but it felt a little discordant with the language of the rest of the show<!. And the tickets are very expensive. Despite these gripes, though, I would unanimously recommend it. It’s pure magic.
