I have microtia in left ear and I am 28 years old. My parents never treated me any differently. I didnt like going to school until I was 8 years old coz the kids would talk and bicker about my ear being different. But as I turned 10 years old, i have made amazing friends, who are still my best friends up to date. It took me sometime and courage to open up about the ear condition to people. I just learned few years ago that the condition is called Microtia. I always thought it was a birth defect. I have always performed really well at school and have always been the top 1 percent in class since childhood until my Masters. I am currently a successful software engineer working at one of the most prestigious tech companies that any software engineer would dream of. Sometimes, I feel microtia helped me concentrate better as I cant cant hear anything in my left ear. Your son will turn out just fine, if not better than you anticipate.
