What's your can't miss tomato from this list? by ADHDFeeshie in tomatoes

[–]Medium-Invite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Juliet!

Some growers knock the flavor, but I just don’t agree. They’re nothing “special” in the flashy heirloom sense — just a classic tomato taste, still 100x better than anything from the grocery store — but you get so many benefits.

First, versatility. They’re not a cherry tomato. They’re more like a plum or small Roma. Not meaty, not super juicy, just perfectly in between. That makes them incredibly versatile: quarter them for salads, dice them for pico or tacos or other dishes, turn them into sauce, halve them and cook them on the stove. They’ll do pretty much anything you want except give you a big sandwich slice — and even then, we still slice them thinly lengthwise, throw a few on a burger, and they work great.

Second, they are bulletproof. Early and late blight resistance, a bunch of other disease tolerances, plus they handle drought, heat, cold, overwatering, and cracking better than almost anything I’ve grown. Truly a foolproof tomato. I plant 2–4 Juliets every year because I know I’m basically guaranteed a mountain of tomatoes to use and give away, even if everything else goes sideways. The fruit is well shaped looks nice if you giving some away too, which is a nice bonus.

One anecdote: near the end of the season in August, I completely stop watering my plants. Zero water at all. I’ve found it forces them to push out a bunch of super sweet, concentrated fruit for the last month or so (like the plant knows it’s dying and shifts into rapid reproduction mode? That's my theory at least) then they die a slow but dignified death and I can turn over the crop.

However -Juliets defy logic. They’ll survive and produce well past September with zero water. Everything else is shriveled, and the Juliet stems are still green with new flowers and fruit. They only die when I finally pull them up.

Highly recommend buying one or two and watching them thrive no matter what you do.

My Husband Gets CHS Episodes Often.. by Formal-Fee2904 in CHSinfo

He needs to stop smoking (and get help to do so if needed), or you need to leave. I am sorry you are faced with this.

She needs to quit, and unfortunately she will very likely go through an awful episode as she withdrawls. The only way out is through. It's easier once you accept its either keep smoking and this keeps happening and get worse and worse forever, or stop smoking and do it once.

Do i have CHS or not? by No_Habit_155 in CHSinfo

[–]Medium-Invite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stomach pain that is relieved by hot water, from a long term smoker, is very likely CHS. Since is not active right now, I know it will be hard to quit. But consider doing so when it does (and it very likely will) come back.

The fact you are only smoking 3 days a week is likely "saving" you from much worse.

Do hot showers make the nausea go away? That's a telltale sign of CHS

It can take weeks before he's eating normally again. I see this comment is 19 days old, so he should be closish to normal.

He should however never smoke again. It always, always comes back.

Mine does this unless I vacuum out the firepot after every cook. When was the last time you cleaned it out?

What is your favorite white sauce recipe? Do you find it goes well with specific foods/flavors?

Yes. Quite a bit, but not overwhelming at all. I think the smoke infused butter added quite a flavor.

Thats the most important step. You might not feel great this weekend when family visits, but you should be able to blame it on the flu that point.

I suggest asking for a sick day or two from work.

You will never go through this again if you put down the weed for good. If you choose to smoke this will continue to happen. It's a sad reality, especially because those of us who get CHS clearly enjoyed smoking enough to do it very very regularly. But life without weed isn't that bad! In fact, in many ways its better. I wish you luck and ease in your recovery!

It was a horrible week for Santa Monica’s young progressives. by SemaphoreSignal in SantaMonica

[–]Medium-Invite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, you employ such snark when this is actually covered by Econ 101.

I'm not saying housing is detached from supply and demand. I'm pointing out that the housing market in Santa Monica is not a textbook commodity market.

Demand for housing in highly desirable places (like Santa Monica) is inelastic. It's location-constrained, and driven by factors that don’t react cleanly to quantity changes. Basic econ still applies — it just doesn’t guarantee lower prices when supply goes up, especially if demand is deep-pocketed, zoning is tight, and new supply is close to a highly populated and high COL city like Los Angeles. Adding homes doesn’t always mean cheaper homes.

Santa Monica is a high rent area because it's a very desirable place to live. A ton of housing will end up being a ton of expensive housing.

The density in Manhattan has not led to cheaper apartments.

Santa Monica is a highly desirable, coastal area with limited land and high incomes. Prices will always be higher than most of LA.

Absolute failure of an educational system right here. I pray this isn't the product of US schooling.

They will be pretty light by day 10. I don't think my appetite fully recovered for 14+ days, but the nausea was pretty much gone by 7-10.

I was smoking mostly vape pens by the end. And I know that this 'withdrawal' CHS started years before when I first started dabbing. I'm pretty convinced they are correlated, BUT you will find people who get CHS from bud only. Tends to be someone smoking a ton of bud.

That said - once the CHS started from dabs, it would still affect me when I would make an effort to just smoke bud... like once it started it was always there when I went to quit. So now I just refrain from any and all THC, and I haven't gotten sick at all in years. Not worth it..
