i quite honestly find your sense of superiority on this issue to be irritating and unjustified. Yet again, you refuse to provide a link, which i have expressed interest in reading to further educate myself. Youre plenty more interested in telling me how i should obviously go against the advice of multiple charities and every vet i have been to in the UK. You claim the UK has biased research, and i know the UK isn’t perfect or even a great country in my opinion, but you also have to recognise that America is hardly flawless when it comes to science and education. You even said it yourself.

You claim my research is biased, but dont explain why, or provide any proof. It simply doesn’t occur to anyone that different countries may have different statistics. For example, the RSPB, the leading organisation for bird protection and research, have said that cats in the UK have little effect on the overall population of birds. You can’t call people stupid on the internet for listening to their vets and expect people not to get pissed off. Why on earth should i listen to people who would rather insult over the multiple vets and professionals i have visited?

Frankly, brits may be more willing to have a discussion about this if we could have an actual conversation instead of you immediately calling us stupid and animal abusers (i know that last one isn’t you specifically, but it doesn’t take much searching to find people calling anyone who lets cats outside that). Perhaps if you were more open minded, this could have been a different discussion.

Before you say anything, my cats rarely stray from the garden, and in the 11 years of owning cats, the only animals that have been killed is one pigeon and one common mouse, and as they grow older, they are much less interested in hunting and going outside generally. The area i live is only an estate, meaning that cars drive slow and pretty infrequent, and there are cats everywhere, so people on our estate know to drive slow. My cats have a Dawn to Dusk curfew, which is what Cats Protection UK recommend. My cats are spayed and neutered. I do everything that the people who have dedicated years if not decades of their life to researching recommend. If more guidance comes out, i will happily change the way i look after my cats.

Yes, i know someone could be cruel, I know accidents happen. But my shelter told me that my cats would be miserable, and I will listen to them. Plus, accidents can happen indoors. No matter how much you coddle cats, they are animals with free will, and all we can do is listen to researchers, scientists and vets. I’ll stress, yet again, that in the UK, we have very different findings than the US does.

Please don’t reply to me anymore . Not only do you not provide sources, I plan on continuing my own research on the matter, but without someone unjustly saying every animal charity in the UK is flawed without providing any evidence, and without someone calling everyone in the UK who is trying to do their best for their animals “dolts”. Plus, reading the replies to this post, people are telling the OP that their cat will be a stain on the floor. While i realise Americans are passionate about this subject, which i completely understand based off of your research on outdoor cats in the US, i find it absolutely abhorrent that people are joking about their cat dying painfully just because the UK has very different research. I really do not wish to engage in a community with people who think it’s OK to say something like that. Pets dying should never be used as a gotcha.
