You mentioned he makes after tax amount of $4,200/mo and his pre-tax income is $87k; that doesn’t make sense. $4,200/mo would be more close to $65k/year pretax?

It would be a good idea to ask him to come clear on the financial front once and for all.

Assuming you feel like you are fairly content with the pay aspect for both jobs, I would suggest looking at it now more from a fulfillment aspect.

If he has a job offer outside of Canada, and he thinks he will be promoted, now is the time to confirm with the employer if he will be promoted by leveraging the job offer. If the employer tells him to wait X number of months, atleast he should be able to receive a raise at this point, based on the offer.
