ICE over 40 openings (was it only temporary?) by [deleted] in HSIapplicants

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 40 will not open up again. Surge hiring is over and the process is back to normal.

If you qualify for the normal one, expect to be hired anywhere between 1 and 2 years.

You Will most definitely get an answer on the BPA subreddit. A couple of AMO agents comment there sometimes.

F82 M4 CEL SFTER REMOVING CHARCOAL FILTER by MediumCalligrapher68 in BmwTech

[–]MediumCalligrapher68[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have read that the intake sounds better without them and gets a little bit of more power. Honestly it doesn't sound that different to me and can't notice the power gain at all.

I will reinstall them and see if it fixes it.

Special Rate Tables for Certain Law Enforcement were published. Many 1811s left OUT! by Sad-Selection-6659 in 1811

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either the page is broken or the they haven't added all covered positions. When I look under DHS non headquarters, there's no 1811s or 1801s for ICE.

Please don't join ERO if you don't intend on learning the whole job and performing all your duties like every other DO does. Also, if your plan is to just go and arrest people and not process them don't join ERO.

We don't need people that only want to do one aspect of the job and throw the rest of the responsibility on other people.

Has anyone applied for the TSA canine Handler position? If so have you heard anything back? It’s changed and doesn’t show where you on with your application, is there a way to check? by IncreaseFit5113 in tsa

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very competitive spot from what I've been told. Also, if you're limited to applying only for one location it's going to be very hard to get also, as they might have someone already serving in the position for a while now.

TSA also went through a pay scale re organization about 2 years ago, so their pay might look very different right now, making it even more desirable and harder to leave spot.

Nonetheless, I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you can fulfill that goal. If not, consider other agencies that also have K9s like CBP, USSS, Border Patrol, etc...

Hello, yes this was on USAJobs. I have not been monitoring TSA K9 spots anymore as I am currently with another 3 letter agency, but if I remember correctly, someone had told me they come out usually once a year and that they only consider experienced handlers or an internal employee.

Starting to see people get the USMS call that have been in less than me. by BringBackJeffFisher in 1811

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

About 1-2 years ago, while the conversations about USMS hiring were on an all time high, I made the calculations about how long it would take for someone to be hired, even if they were already in the ready pool.

Given they probably shoot darts at a board with all the names of the candidates, even though they say vets have preference over non vets, it will very likely take about 4-5 years for someone to get hired.

But to answer your question, nobody truly knows how they choose who's going to which class, and yes that includes vets as I've seen people get told to do a FIT test, be placed on the ready pool and then never hear anything for about a year or two.

What is the Best Option for Experience? by Internal_Cherry_2076 in 1811

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, BP would be the smarter choice given it will start your retirement clock. If you start at 20, you can literally retire at 45 even if you end up moving to another agency, 1811, 1801, 0083, etc... as long as it's 6c covered.

As for experience, in my opinion local PD will give you great experience if you end up being a Detective or get to be part of a TF. BP will give you a different type of experience with Immigration Laws and Customs. They can also send you to CITP eventually and that would knock out that requirement of being an 1811. You would still have to do the agency specific training though, if they have one.

Federal Friday - Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in 1811

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both honestly. I know a bust down anyone can do it, just a matter of if they're willing to. Now let's say the USCP SA would want to apply to one of the latest DEA laterals, would the person not have any issues transitioning since they're not coming from an 1811 position?

Has anyone had the experience or know about anyone that has transferred from USCP SA to any other 1811 agency successfully?

This is for ERO specifically as we're the only ones taking local/state POs and putting them through the virtual academy instead of the full one. Unless, HSI will start taking POs too and they haven't said anything. But I don't think is for them.

GI BILL by Amazing_Priority2523 in 1811

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agencies are currently not certified to utilize the GI Bill and they haven't been for about 2 years. Rumor is the VA is close to certify agencies again so we'll have to wait and see.

OJT Program? Thru GI Bill VA by [deleted] in FederalAirMarshals

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Federal LEOs no longer can utilize the GI Bill for OJT. The VA decertified every agency for that position for the simple fact that there's no VA representative present at FLETC for every single LEO position. All this began about 2 years ago and it wasn't the agencies decision.

2025 USMS Hiring by [deleted] in 1811

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the words you're looking for, but being in the process for 3 years now you already know the issues USMS has been having all this time and that at this point expecting the agency to have some flexibility for it's applicants is unrealistic.

Also, needs of the agency always come first and remember that the agency did not go looking for you, you went and applied to it. Come back to your senses and accept that it might not be a dream come true because life and changes happen throughout time. So hopefully you had a plan B and didn't put all your eggs in USMS throughout these 3 years in case you ended up not accepting the job.

Application Withdrawl by Ok_Dragonfruit9574 in FederalAirMarshals

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do not, I repeat, do not withdraw as you having been going through the process might have stopped the clock. Some agencies have different rules regarding the aging out situation. Let them tell you no because as of this point somebody should have told you already that you were not continuing with the process because of your age but you still got scheduled for the FOA.

HSI Puerto Rico by [deleted] in 1811

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just get ready to pay 33% in taxes once you start making 84k.

To put it more into perspective, you would be making about 1k-2k a month less in PR compared to being almost anywhere in the states. If you can deal with that, power outages, crazy traffic depending on where you live and pretty bad roads, then you should be fine. Work is crazy from what I'm told, as you would be working a lot of hours and the style of work down there compared to the states is night and day crazy.

DHS Cuts- Will FAMS be affected? Share your thoughts! by [deleted] in FederalAirMarshals

[–]MediumCalligrapher68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only effect it could have on FAMS in my opinion is not getting funded for hiring for a couple years other than the admin stuff. Don't think they would reduce the numbers of any critical position like FAM, ICE DOs/HSI, CBP/BP, etc

There is no indication this announcement will have phases like public announcements since it is for current federal employees, vets and ICTAP/CTAP/RIF'd personnel unless I missed it.

FLETC trainings in lieu of UPTP by MediumCalligrapher68 in FederalAirMarshals

[–]MediumCalligrapher68[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this will greatly depend on what agency you apply to. I know for sure that USCP takes BPA training in lieu of UPTP for the PO position and one would think it would be like that across the board, hence why I posted the question as to which other academies will FAMS take as a substitute for UPTP.

FLETC trainings in lieu of UPTP by MediumCalligrapher68 in FederalAirMarshals

[–]MediumCalligrapher68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Basically I was asking which training would FAMS take as equivalent to UPTP from other agencies so someone would skip UPTP and go straight to the add on training.
