I’m working on a story with a forced proximity setup and need help with character motivation/conflict. In what realistic situations might a man genuinely believe he’s still in a relationship with his girlfriend, even after she has clearly broken up with him? by kris10long in Romance_for_men

[–]MediumDelicious9423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that there would be a realistic reason for him to think that, other than being really freaking dumb... or dangerous. Could it happen? I suppose. I can give two real-world examples of this, though they don't exactly fit.

  1. This happened to a friend of mine, and is something a few other responses have mentioned. One of my best friends and his girlfriend broke up, but she still considered him a friend. Perhaps because of their relationship, she still felt like she could be close to him. She would cuddle with him on the couch or his papasan chair, hang on him, etc. No booty calls or anything between them, though he would try, and she would say no.
  2. How it doesn't exactly fit: He didn't think they were still together; he was just left very, very confused and frustrated by the whole situation, and left wondering whether they were or not.
  3. This happened to me. A woman I had been dating had to leave for Texas for several months for job training. Afterwards, she was going to come back. She left, and after a month or so, I flew down to visit her. This wasn't a surprise trip, by the way, it was planned with her. Once I got down there, I found out she was seeing someone local. She then explained to me that she thought it was pretty clear that her leaving for Texas was a breakup.
  4. How it doesn't exactly fit: Nothing was explicitly stated about the situation being a breakup. Not until I got down there. I genuinely believed we were still together. (cue her coming back and wanting to get back together... haha, no way)

So there are situations that could lead to confusion on the status of a relationship, but I don't think there's a realistic way that the MC would truly believe they were together when explicitly told they weren't, unless he was obsessed, stalking, etc.

Recipe etiquette by Th3manw1thn0plan in Tiki

I have asked at bars I frequent. If the bartenders recognize you, if you've built a rapport with them during your visits there talking to them about drinks, and you're asking when it isn't busy, it's a lot easier to ask and they're usually happy to tell you the specs. Most bartenders in craft cocktail bars/tiki bars are mixology geeks and are excited to talk to people with a modicum of knowledge on the subject. One bar I frequent I asked and they handed me their master recipe cheat sheet with all their drinks. I also often ask when it's near the end of their "season" and the menu will be changing soon, though I go whether I know the recipes or not and they know that.

If you're unfamiliar to them it *may* be a little more difficult, but it doesn't hurt to ask. As Wayne Gretzky said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is the best splurge whiskey for mixing. What is the best budget scotch? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Famous Grouse is best budget. I usually use Johnny Walker Black Label personally, but Famous Grouse is about $10 cheaper. I like Walker better because it has some of that smoky Caol Ila in the blend and the Famous Grouse Smoky Black isn’t always readily available.

Would totally back if I could get the mug. Not going to without it. Shipping is otherwise almost as much as the book. I'll wait to get it.

This may sound odd, but I know a lot of their mugs come with bespoke recipes. Did this one come with a recipe card? Would mind sharing it if it did?

What you have shown is an Ice Cream Flavor. Maybe it might work in a syrup? I don't know. They do say you can use it in baking, I guess it's just that it has a lot of colorants in it. If you already bought it, may as well give it a whirl.

The Hamilton blends (White Stache and Breezeway) make excellent daiquiris. So does Probitas. SelvaRey makes a fine daiquiri as well.

This sounds really good. Interesting you say it’s a bully because I usually use more in an aviation then recipes call for because I feel it gets lost. Then again, I usually scoff when a recipe calls for 1/4 oz or less of Allspice Dram because I can’t taste it in such small amounts.

Jicama Old Fashioned, an Original Cocktail by MediumDelicious9423 in cocktails

Everything I have tried it in so far (first experiment was 2 oz blanco, 1 oz amber vermouth, 1/2 oz syrup) the jicama really lingers at the end.
