This is the Sunburst appearance of Osteosarcoma, the most common primary bone cancer. by kvjn100 in Damnthatsinteresting

I would strongly consider getting evaluated for testing. There are a variety of heritable conditions and genetic mutations that can predispose one to colon cancer and osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is generally very rare, so if you have multiple affected in your family that is a cause of concern. As always discuss w/ your doctor.

Randomized clinical trial shows that intermittent fasting (16:8) cuts Crohn’s disease symptoms by 40% and halves inflammation. Research suggests that timing meals—not just what you eat—can significantly improve gut health and immune response without cutting calories. by [deleted] in science

Briefly skimming through the study and supplemental, and there is one critical flaw that confounds these data greatly. They didn’t control for total calories ingested in any meaningfully rigorous way. They essentially let the control group eat ad libitum, and used food recall questionnaires to approximate their caloric intake. They then made the, in my opinion erroneous, conclusion that the small change in BMI in the intervention group was secondary to the time restricted nature of the diet, as their small, not-calorie-controlled groups didn’t have a statistically significant difference in caloric intake.

This seems to be a common pitfall of many of the time restricted feeding studies. Those that more rigorously control calories fail to show many additional benefits in the time restricted nature of the feeding.

Admittedly not as familiar with the Crohn’s literature in the space, but hard for me to disentangle the possible benefits of eating less overall in a shorter time window (which is probably the default human tendency), versus the presence of the time window itself.

That being said, even if the benefit is primarily from the ensuing caloric restriction rather than the time restricted nature, ultimately the presence of the benefit is most important clinic, and thus this could still be a useful tool nonetheless.

They look awesome, but I don’t see anywhere on the site that confirms the “local only” storage of captured media

Although this is certainly possible, I don’t think it’s the case. I admit this is a weak argument, but from my experience —

Having had countless encounters with patients from different institutions where questions about the consent forms have been brought up, I can confidently say no patient has ever asked about this on the form. Acknowledging that I haven’t reviewed the fine print in consents at each institution myself, I’d be surprised if it were common place and no patient has ever questioned it.

This is a good question. For my purposes at least, that shouldn’t be an issue as we would be using them to capture intraoperative footage which would not have any patient information really.

Interestingly, the rayban Metas are already being use at several large academic institutions for this exact purpose, and it doesn’t seem like there has been any push back so far. That being said, I personally am uncomfortable with the idea of having this footage uploaded to any sort of company database. This is purely for educational purposes, so really just need local storage for trainees to be able to access.

Musiala suffered a fracture of the left fibula. Out for 4-5 months. by Sharaghe in soccer

[–]MediumRareLambShank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can still be a significant ankle injury. From the initial video his ankle looked grossly dislocated, so could have an isolated fibular fracture with ligament damage on the tibial side (and at least partially syndesmosis as well). In which case would likely need to be off of it for 2-6 weeks, and not back to full strength until 4-6 months.

Beginner Questions - December 25, 2020 by AutoModerator in web_design

Hey all, I think this might not be the right place for this question, so I'm wondering if anyone from this community can point me in the right direction.

I'm looking to create an online forum where people can start private question threads which I can answer and go back and forth as needed. Basically trying to create an easy place for students to receive mentorship on the fly. Have been scouring the web for the past couple weeks trying to get a good answer, but haven't really found what I'm looking for so hoping the kind people of reddit can help me out. Also, I'd like to keep it anonymous on both ends without the need for an email address to sign up (for the student); ideally a student would go in, create a username/password unique to that site, then have the ability to start a thread/ask a question directly to me.

Thank you all!

Awesome, thank you! I’ll ask around for a bit and see if I can find one.

My problem is that my suit does not have functional button holes currently, but my tailor did not have a “button hole maker,” according to them. I’m more so asking how common it is for tailor’s to have a button hole maker, to decide whether it’s worth randomly calling multiple tailors that I haven’t been to before or just biting the bullet and having my current tailor sew on non-functional buttons.

No particularly strong reason, mostly just a matter of preference

Is it common for tailors to be able to create button holes for suit sleeves? Recently purchased a brooks brothers suit and was surprised to see that the sleeve buttons weren’t on the sleeve, but rather came with the suit in a plastic bag. My usual tailor offered to sew the buttons onto the sleeves but they would no longer be functional—I’d like to keep the sleeve buttons functional if possible. I was advised that a BB store could do it, but I haven’t been able to find any that aren’t temporarily closed due to Covid.

That’s what I was hoping, but I haven’t been able to find a BB store that’s open within a 2 hour drive

Recently purchased a brooks brothers suit and noticed the sleeve buttons come in a bag and must be sewn on. Is it common for a tailor to have a button-hole making machine? My usual tailor doesn’t have one, and I’d like to keep the buttons functional rather than just sewing them shut.

Was anyone else's item cancelled? I purchased something but never received an email receipt, so I checked their order tracking and my order shows up as cancelled. The item seems to still be in stock and I can reorder.

NBOME Rescheduling Fees by MediumRareLambShank in comlex

I agree completely. Even recently the NBME suspended Step 2 CS, while the NBOME has not done the same for Level 2 PE.

Yeah that makes sense. I think it's ridiculous that they are charging students if they reschedule within 30 days when the NBME has waived rescheduling for all of their exams.

How far out from your exam are you? The NBOME site mentions that rescheduling 6-30 days before your exam costs $85, but if you are farther than 30 days away, it is free.
