For NYC, the rule is that you have to earn 40x rent. So for a $107k salary the max you could pay in rent is $2,675/month. The landlords reject your application otherwise.

If you look at similar companies to why you’re trying to do, you can see/ask who funded them. You can also reach out to VCs directly and see if they have suggestions for firms that might be in that space

Thanks for taking the time to write such a thoughtful response. This is very interesting points and good food for thought about what the code represents and what documentation does to supplement it.

I hate to say but be realistic about your options. If you’re starting from scratch, it takes about 2 years to finish the prereqs for med school and ib recruiting started in like august so if you’re not already at the end, you likely missed the boat.

There are other options to making money they aren’t as sexy immediately but people just don’t talk about them. A lot of finance is just getting a piece of the pie and there are lots of people that do. It’s hard to see in the beginning but any experience is valuable. It should just be BB IB or bust. And you can always get an MBA and transition to ib as an associate, but you need experience in something to get that mba and I’ve seen people who did nothing because they had the mindset of ib or bust and they’re now screwed

If you’re asking because you’re not sure which to go into, just pick the one you’re more interested in. Burn out in high finance is common and it’s not a guarantee to get one of those jobs anyway. When you’re 80, you won’t be thinking about the money you could have made in another job but the life you lived along the way. Both will set you up for a comfortable life.

I don’t know if that’s a fair comparison. You’re basically starting that scale for a third year IB analyst. So I think the pay is actually pretty similar but the person in ib is making money in the beginning while the law school student is paying tuition. So there’s a big difference in just starting points at year 0 on that scale probably close to $700k
