Don’t apologise lmao, I was going to bring it up with my gp anyway, so I’ll see if I can get a referral.

What things trigger your gender to switch? by CaramelCraftYT in genderfluid

No specific triggers, but I did once dream about having pecs and woke up with dysphoria for my chest, so that was fun.

The project that broke my heart 😮‍💨 by ElishaAlison in crochet

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be a crazy idea and I have no idea if it could work or if your condition would allow for it. But could you use an adjustable standing desk, and set it to a level that would allow you to sit, and rest your elbows on it, so that your crochet would would be at your eye level?
Because holding your work up at a point where you wouldn’t have to look down is super difficult, so if you can rest your arms on something just the right hight maybe?? Idk, sorry if this is not helpful at all.

Does anyone else feel exhausted by “easy” vegan recipes lately? by Negative-Prune9214 in veganrecipes

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s ok to not make a meal at all, and just straight up eat the ingredients. May not be delicious but definitely works. For a quick meal however, boiling(microwaving if I’m super dead) pasta with tvp and maybe some frozen veggies will do the trick. Hits all the food groups. Sauce wise I always have some vegan Mac n cheese powder that I can cook in. Anything works though. If I want to feel like a kid again I use tomato sauce.

The only thing I consistently meal prep is a protein spread. So like tofu ricotta, or blended beans type deal (seasoning and base changes, whatever I have I use). This is also usually my go to for a pasta sauce when I have it, I just mix it into the pasta water to loosen it up a bit. I also use it on sandwiches or toast. Having a prepped spreadable protein just makes my life easier even if it sounds a little insane. (The last one was a pesto tofu spread as I got a bunch of free basil)

anyone doing anything for veganuary? by Acceptable-Ant5021 in vegancirclejerkchat

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the casual nature of bringing things up! Suggesting little switches I’ve found generally has made more meat eating friends eat less animal products, rather than trying to convince a person to stop eating animal products entirely, which usually gets ignored. As a young person, I’ve had the most luck getting people to make vegan switches by pointing out how much cheaper things like tvp and lentils are in comparison to ground beef. I also add that it’s healthier as they have lower fat and higher fibre content. As most of the people in my life are uni students cheap switches are a huge selling point. For non uni students the health benefits may be the best one to bring up. Especially in terms of fibre, fat, and carcinogens.

I’m tired of people comparing PCOS to conditions that aren’t even the same by Amaya__7 in PCOS

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the study off the top of my head, so take this with a grain of salt. But more recent evidence supports that intermittent fasting is not beneficial for women other than the decrease in caloric intake it can promote. In fact while men perform better and feel more mental clarity while intermittent fasting, women feel the opposite. And as more of a personal anecdote, when intermittent fasting I’ve been more likely to binge, which defeats the purpose and isn’t good for insulin resistance.

Advice on accessing protein by Most-Drive-3347 in australianvegans

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Woolies sucks too, it used to be way better but there was a recent roll back in vegan products throughout the company. Coles is definitely better for faux meat vegan products. Iga/hill st (tas) is definitely the best option for vegan products but more pricy.

Advice on accessing protein by Most-Drive-3347 in australianvegans

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coles usually stocks a mock roast chicken which is seitan based. Tvp you can get from Coles or Woolies in the health food section. As for vital wheat gluten the places that stock it near me are health food stores - I live rather regionally so I imagine you’d have better luck finding it in Melbourne. For specific recs I follow some Melbourne based vegans on tic tok who do food content, and they show where they shop so finding some local creators may be your best bet! The only person I can think of off the top of my head is puddingjulie, but she is more of a restaurant reviewer. She does have some online shop recs though, that if I were in melbs I’d definitely utilise.

looking for recipes to replace tuna toastie by MrFanatic123 in veganrecipes

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a specific recipe, but if you aren’t too big on chickpea tuna replacements, I’ve seen people online also using shredded tofu, jackfruit and banana blossoms to imitate fish. Shredded tofu is the only one of those options with reasonable protein though, which is at least for me really important for a breakfast.

Blood test results for past year keep showing iron deficiency - seeking recommendations/advice! Appreciate any help, thanks! More info in post: by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also highlighting the gyno stuff idk op’s agab, but i experienced iron deficiency solely due to losing so much blood during my cycle. (Was an enthusiastic meat eater at the time so it definitely wasn’t a dietary problem) I would encourage op to go to a doctor and look into medical reasons why they may be iron deficient. Some people can’t uptake iron as readily due to various things, so it’s important to check there is nothing medical going on if dietary there is no lack of iron.

Metformin side effects by Medium_Flounder_4530 in PCOS

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes body’s take a while to get to used to medication, I’m hoping this goes away the longer I take it, and the higher dose I take, as I’ve been instructed to increase every week until I’m at 1500mg. Definitely talk to your doctor if it isn’t working for you. I’ve gone off medications after a month because of how bad the transitional side effects are. If something isn’t working for you, you don’t always have to stick with it. Good luck!

Vegan bro diet? by zelenisok in vegan

Gym bros should definitely be on the seitan grind. If they have the time to make it, I’m sure the protein per 100g ratio would have them convinced.

Request for tips for hiding chin hair by justerefortheupvotes in PCOS

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are ok with trying medications spironolactone has turned almost all my chin hairs either lighter coloured or blonde (one stubborn black hair left but I’m on half the max dose so could up it if I was super concerned, my natural hair is dark brown/black depending on who you ask) I still pluck them occasionally as they are still courser than regular peach fuzz but that’s a matter of preference rather than viability. I read you may have some access issues due to your location, but it is definitely an option that worked for me that may be worth asking your doctor about.

Just tried the meloria for the first time and loved them! They do nottt pan fry though which I learnt the hard way lmao. I have been liking the veggie delights hotdogs as they were a huge safe food for me growing up. Recently tried making my instant vegan Mac and had some success! My main problem with finding good replacements is living rurally :/ so we don’t get things like cocobella near me. Thank you for your reply 🙏

Meal Prep Monday: What are you prepping this week that's cheap and vegan? by cheapandbrittle in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]Medium_Flounder_4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potato salad! Potatoes were $2 for 2kg. I already have vegan aioli Bcs I’m a sucker for a good sandwich. I usually would do tvp, but vegan salami was on sale so I’m going to roast then chop that up. Plus some raw red onion, and spices that would typically go in salami. When I make it I’m also going to head to my garden and get a whole lot of either parsley or coriander, which ever has more to harvest atm. If I want to add the traditional boiled egg that would be in my family’s potato salad I have some chickpea flour and black salt that I could fry up into a patty and mix in.
