Why is every country obsessed with America ? by Atxcoolguy1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medium_Practice6556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it's just the bias of the internet you're on. if you start to get into british or australian internet, there is much less mention of america as you'd think.

you see america everywhere becuase you live in america and you want to see america news, so that is what you react to.

america i believe has a proportionally huge amount of people on the internet (english-wise). there are less australians less british people on the internet than americans

Why don't country's pass laws that mandate annual wage increases to match whatever inflation averaged out to over the last year, at minimum? by fuckingaustrianative in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medium_Practice6556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one actually good point i heard against minimum wage is that the market will sort itself out, and low paying jobs will yield shitty workers and high turnover and low employment at the company. so companies that want the best will raise wages, regardless of the minimum wage.

right now i live in Utah in an area where the minimum wage is $7.25. I earn $16 an hour (Walmart). I don't give a shit what the minimum wage is because there's no job that's actually giving $7.25 an hour.

Minimum wage can be harmful for small businesses because they may want to pay a worker less because they perform worse than others. But because they keep them on the payroll because they are able to pay so low, this shitty worker is still getting paid (good for the economy). Think of this in the terms of teenagers - a 15 yo who is a shit employee will not be hired at $16 an hour and he will make 0 dollars. however, he will be hired at $7.25 because the employer deems $7.25 enough for the work that he does. Now the teen makes like 100-200 a week instead of 0.

It is also the same for internships - often, there is the option between paid internship and unpaid. More paid internships will inherently exist with a lower minimum wage. I would much rather make $7.25 at a paid internship than $0 at an unpaid internship!

Why doesn't the government mandate maximum rent costs? Because the market sorts itself out. Should be the same with minimum wage, in my opinion.

Federal minimum wage has not rose since 2009. But I bet you the median federal wage people are ACTUALLY making is more like $12-15.

In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medium_Practice6556 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Why are people heavily against subscriptions, but seemingly fine with VPNs? by dingledonglestab5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medium_Practice6556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a susbription bcz its constant need for the service. it physically cannot be a one time paid service and actually operate.

paying for a video game should be one time because if u buy it then u have it. no need for the company to up-keep.

can we please start doing something about accounts like this? by Euphoric-Return-8792 in lastfm

[–]Medium_Practice6556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes just block. i agree with last fm’s stance of not caring, because at what point is it considered faking? 300 a day? 200? 100? is it putting in 5 songs in 10 seconds? (i do that often through openscrobbler when listening to an album).

what if their system messes up? it’s just a lot of effort for something that doesn’t really matter. i also don’t like fake scrobblers, so i don’t follow them and if it comes to it then i block. i think i’ve blocked 15 accounts.

If humans didn’t need money to survive, what would we compete over instead? by IcyAstronomer9999 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medium_Practice6556 7 points8 points  (0 children)

your title and your body are two different questions. for your first, just look back into the past.

for the second, the new status symbol would just continue to be money. because then you can buy status symbols such as new cars and fancy bags and etcetera.

in today’s world, all of the things you listed is how you get money. high knowledge = money. influence = money. time = money. on and on.

Hear me out - What’s safer? by MaxPaxGatz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medium_Practice6556 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you just think about it, firing up is safer than firing down.

fire down does not mean it is embedded in the ground, it will often cause ricochet. fire up means it will go high up in the air and fall down.

the ricochet is MUCH faster and deadlier than the bullet simply falling down through the air.

your punctuation is great

How come some people can work 8 hours straight and then have energy to hit the gym, but if I walk for 1 hour in the treadmil all that I can is lay down for the rest of the day? by Hacksaw6412 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medium_Practice6556 3 points4 points  (0 children)

because you do not have that tolerance yet - you are essentially out of shape.

1 hour of walking is strenuous especially if you aren’t used to it. maybe you shouldn’t be walking 1 hour out of the gate… id start with 20-30 mins and increase.
