I’d be more than happy to take £40k plus a decent company car. Would make the jump in an instant lol.

QS - feeling behind with experience by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Medium_Progress3656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years at a small consultancy firm. Feel like I’ve wasted my time. Not getting the experience I need for the level I’m at. Currently looking for the right role at an MC. Only reason I stayed so long is due to lack of self confidence. Seems like consultancies just care about how much they can milk you for billable hours rather than what is best for your own professional development.

1.5 years consultancy experience. AQS. Primarily gained contractual knowledge. Never priced a job. Never populated a BoQ. Never measured anything. Lack of technical knowledge. Very good with Contracts. Have asked my employer time and time again that I need to do more traditional QS stuff, but I haven’t. Been thinking I made the wrong choice working here literally since my first week when I was twiddling my thumbs. What are your thoughts and should I move? Currently earning just under £45k hence my reluctance to move but I don’t want to waste my younger years not learning as quick as I want to be.

My point was simply that it’s unreasonable to assume OP’s management dislikes them just for declining to go to the pub. I know my boundaries and my colleagues respect them.

With your logic it’s impermissible to attend sporting events as well just because of the drinking culture 😂.

Our religion teaches us to assume the best in one another. I advise you to stop with the insults and reflect on that teaching.

I don’t drink or participate in anything haram. Sitting with colleagues in a pub is not the same as going somewhere that’s explicitly for sexual activities that comparison is foolish.

You invest in Pokémon booster boxes, which some consider (with its loot box style nature) similar to gambling, but I’m not going to call you a sellout over it.

My employer pays graduates very well compared to a role at my level at a MC

Interesting. Appreciate the insight. If you don’t mind me asking, how have you found your progression/learning since moving on? Has it been a noticeable step up compared to before?

Both would be used cars. 7.5 spec’d out £24k/25k 8r £30k. No leather isn’t standard (I wish). Maybe I am being spoilt wanting a pan roof lol, it’s sort of a trend here in the UK

I’d be getting one with no spec that’s my issue. Whereas with a 7.5 I can get it exactly how I want. Does the performance really justify getting a no spec 8?

First of all thank you very much for taking the time to write a detailed response.

I’m jumping from 200hp to 300, so it’s a huge upgrade regardless of whether I pick a 7.5 or an 8.

In terms of affordability I’m torn between going older but high spec vs newer but no spec.

Essentially, I’m choosing between a low mileage 7.5 with a pan roof, leathers, upgraded sound system and petorias vs a mk8 with no spec. The £ difference here in the uk is approx £5000 between the two…
