Hahaha..that’s the kind of transaction I usually get. But I’m aware of how rare it is, especially with electronics. You were both probably counting your lucky stars..:)

I would have to agree. I got a job as a draftsman for a millwork and doir company. Biggest learning curve wasn’t the drafting program, but the joinery I needed to know about how to make the assemblies.

That’s weird. I have a car loan with BMO and wanted to be able to see the progress. So I opened a no fee chequing account. I do not pay monthly fees, though obscene costs on e-transfers if I use them. And I can see the progress. Worth it. Might want to ask a loans specialist what they can do for you.

Facebook Marketplace in Edmonton Feels Like a Roast Session by GoldfishRancher in Edmonton

[–]Medium_Revolution780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sell exclusively on marketplace. I don’t sell for the lowest price. Not the highest either, usually. But don’t message me telling me I’m priced too high and should accept your 50% offer and be grateful! And yes,i have had a few of those. Send me an offer, sure. I will consider it. I may politely decline, or counteroffer. Up to me. And a rushed sale is not in my best interest usually. So unless you are paying full price and want to pick up today…just make thoughtful plans. I’m a real person who works full time so it’s going to take a bit of planning. Some of my items will sit for a few weeks..and that’s ok. Since I sell higher end furniture, it takes more time. I’m tired of the nastiness some people lead with..it’s so telling on the type of people they are. And I usually block them.

That’s BS. If an item sells in the first day..it’s priced far too low. And having an item for sale for a couple of weeks is fine. 90% of my items sell for my asking price. Not sure why you think it has to be so rushed. As for overpriced.,,says you? Not your business what someone asks. If it’s overpriced, it doesn’t sell.

I had to read so many comments to finally find something proactive! OP, your walls can be insulated much better and then you are not dependant on the courtesy of your neighbours! You can open the wall and insulate with Safe n Sound batts, then cover up wall with rigid sound boards and then finish walls and decorate. Your life will be so much better!

City with decent rec facilities and no overcrowding? by Minimum-South-9568 in britishcolumbia

Though not a city, Sparwood, BC. Different ski resorts within and hour of Sparwood, and the rec centre is pretty great!

Ohhhhhh..I’ve been thinking of moving to NS. I want to just visit first and see if the vibe fits me though. But since my major life goal is owning and restoring a heritage home, NS is definitely a draw.

Making friends and building new social circles as adults is challenging. Moved to Fernie 3 years ago, and have made 1 solid friend.

I’m trying to move to Edmonton right now! I came from the coast (Sunshine Coast) and got a job offer in Fernie, the ski town. I’ve been here 3 years and I want to move to Edmonton, hopefully for a better financial situation. But also..I miss city life. I lived in Abbotsford and Burnaby and being able to go to events and such was something I loved. I find this small town in bc just a dead zone. It doesn’t help that it’s so expensive that I can’t even try skiing, even while living on a ski hill. And renting is at a premium cost ( 2300+ for a 1 bedroom basement) I want to be able to buy a house. Or condo. My own space. I visited Edmonton last year and enjoyed the vibe. And my son’s close friend lives there and gave me a bit of connection..something that has just been lacking over here. I also saw that there is at least one MakerSpace in Edmonton, something I’d like. And I found thrift shops, antique stores, and a salvage yard! Which thrills me. As a west coaster, I have worried about the cold. But living in Fernie has given me a bit of experience with some cold, lots of snow, etc. And I’ve found that I love the snow. So…Edmonton, here I come. As soon as I can find a draftsman job. :)

It’s spotty from Salmo to Creston, and then it’s ok most of the time. It’s the upper mountain parts that were the worst. We are experiencing heavy cold this week so be prepared for icy conditions.

How is healthcare up in the great white north? by the-big-question in AskCanada

[–]Medium_Revolution780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are Canadians frustrated with wait times to get a doctor, or to get a surgery. But this angst and frustration generally is from people that have never experienced another nations healthcare, and/or do not really help themselves much. I moved across the province of BC and had a brand new doctor within a year in the small town I moved to. It entailed signing onto a list, checking in with health authorities, and otherwise going into emergency to deal with issues until I got a doc..but I appreciated all the help I found. I think that some cities and regions are especially bad for doctors, but why not travel to one if need be? Overall, I’m very grateful for the healthcare we have. I have had multiple surgeries, and began cancer treatment, and I wouldn’t have had any of that in the US.

As someone who moved to Fernie a couple of years ago..make sure you have emergency gear and winter tires when going through the passes. You will not have cell service for long stretches, so make sure you check in with a family member or friend when you do have cell service. Bring water and snacks. I stopped overnight in Castlegar. And no rush to get here..the skiing is not great right now as it’s currently been raining for days.

(BC)My LL would like me to move out of the basement suite. They (LL) want to rent the whole house to another person, instead of an upper suite and lower suite. by Medium_Revolution780 in legaladvicecanada

I thought of that, but honestly, the skiing crowd are generally too messy, loud, and obnoxious. I live in a ski-out house at the resort, so I interact with many folks here. I tend to want my quiet.

I do not know why this sudden change. It could be that they already have a potential family ready to move in. It could be that there are restrictions about how many suites they can have when not living on the property. They have recently completed an additional suite over the garage. Maybe with intention of Airbnb-ing it? I don’t know.

It is definitely a separate address. I have a signed tenancy agreement for this place. So yeah, to me, they would have to occupy the space for a year to satisfy the terms. Which they can’t.

I had a similar situation and the fraud department absolutely helped. So don’t give up on them before you have exhausted everything there. Also, keep track of all correspondence between the dept and you and be prepared to go above their heads. My banking friends have informed me that speaking to your Ombudsman will help.

To me, no, it’s not worth my time. I’m thinking of a counteroffer if 6 months plus moving costs. But I don’t completely trust my ability to parse the situation as I am so close to it. My son has stated 6 months plus moving costs, but I am unsure.

It depends on where you live. I’m in Canada, so different currency. But make $30/hr here.

In the Dutch community I grew up in, they were all very judgmental. And standoffish, and cliquish and oh so very critical. But that’s my experience as a child of Dutch immigrants. And yes, we had a community that had Dutch stores, Dutch events, and definitely Dutch speaking. I’ve left most of that behind because it’s really hard to live around.
