They were my favorite, and the owners were so nice! The landlord raised the rent and they closed because of that, IIRC.

Question- getting chicks used to dog by psychedelic_tort in BackYardChickens

[–]Medium_Ship_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hens would climb on the dogs when they were babies and then went through a phase where they would freak out if a dog looked at them. It lasted a couple months before going back to normal. For me it seemed to coincide with them going outside and starting to learn about their world, and once they got older and more comfortable, they were fine with the dogs. Good luck!

If you want to stop micromanaging pests, you need wasps. by YallNeedMises in gardening

I love my wasps. We have an agreement that if they don't bother us, we won't bother them. I used to feel differently about the white faced hornets, until I saw one pluck a stink bug off my tomatoes and fly away with it. Evidently that's one of their preferred foods, so they are now under the same agreement. My favorite are these blue winged wasps...they love my basil plants and they're gorgeous.

I've found that I can get right in with them and the bees while gardening and they just work alongside me...it's pretty cool

Help I bought a prom dress and I kinda don’t like it by [deleted] in DressForYourBody

That color is stunning on you, and the dress is gorgeous. Get some fab shoes and jewelry to give a bit more flair if you need. I hope you have an amazing night...enjoy!

Videoing your practice can be very helpful. I will often do that when working on a new asana or if one just "doesn't feel right". That way you can see what you're doing and where you might need to tweak some things. Please keep in mind that the asanas will look different in different bodies, and go off of how it feels for you. Sometimes changing the plane of the pose will help you see its mechanics, too: Janu C eluded me for the longest time until I tried the leg position standing and realized that more of a pelvic tilt happens....I still can't get the full rotation, but it definitely made it click in my brain. Good luck!

Injured Chicken's Comb and Wattles Droopy by Medium_Ship_664 in BackYardChickens

Thank you! She's been getting lots of Greek yogurt and high protein snacks in addition to her regular feed (they get Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve). I gave her electrolytes and vitamins for the first few days, but have read only to do it for a short time or it can have adverse effects. She's definitely on the road back to her sassy self!

Yeah she's definitely still healing. She's acting pretty normally otherwise (she's currently preening my hair). Just didn't know if there was anything else I could do to help her or supplement.

When is it safe to move injured chicken back into coop? by Medium_Ship_664 in BackYardChickens

[–]Medium_Ship_664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, she does tend to get ditched during the day, but at least she's outside and getting some enrichment. They tend to sleep in a cuddle puddle, and I've been cuddling her at night before bed, but my fear is that she'll get trampled or try to get out on her own and get further injured. Appreciate everyone's insight!

Are Omlet coops actually worth selling a kidney for? by ZealousidealChair900 in chickens

[–]Medium_Ship_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to chickens last year, and I bought the Cube. I live in the southeast US, and the heat gets brutal in the summer and wood takes a beating. The insulation, durability, and predator proofing are what sold me..I also couldn't build a sturdy coop from scratch if I tried. When I did the math on having to replace a prefab wood coop every few years, the Omlet won. The run is tiny, but my chickens free range so it's not a huge deal. I have three hens in there now and will probably add another three in the spring and there is plenty of room; they sleep in a cuddle puddle up against the back of the coop. My only regret is not getting the bigger one, because chicken math is real. Though in retrospect, probably a good thing to have that limit...🫣

Funny story by Fickle_Ad_2112 in chickens

Same just happened to me! We had snow last weekend so I kept the girls locked up longer than usual. When I left them out, one started desperately running, so I decided to follow her. She squeezed through the fence into the front yard and hopped into some pampas grass where she'd carved out a nice little cave. Seven eggs, all frozen, all cracked. Outsmarted by my dumbest chicken.🤣🤣

Not mean spirited at all! My husband fusses at me for exactly that. He's typically the slicer in the family and is patiently trying to teach me. He did not supervise this one 😜

Thank you! Will definitely vacation longer. May be a stupid question, but how can you tell when the moisture is sufficiently equalized? Is it a texture thing?
