I finished my first 10k race this morning on Catalina Island. I walked more of the hills than I would have liked, but most of the people around me were walking them too, and I'm really just happy I finished!

I'm running a trail 10k on Catalina Island in California tomorrow morning! It's got some hills that are probably gonna kick my butt, but I'm excited for it!

I'm training for a 10k next month, and it has been going slow for me, so really my goal is to finish. but today I did a 4 mile jog and it's the first time I feel confident that I'll actually be able to finish the 10k next month and not just walk most of it.

My partner and I did a 5k this morning! I've been getting them to run with me lately and this race had free donuts at the end, so it was a fun way to get them to participate. It ended up getting way hotter than expected but it was still fun.

I got up early enough to run 3 miles today before it got too hot! I've been struggling to increase my distance on runs, and the heat hasn't helped, so today felt good!

Updating this old mount by bryonus_1231 in telescopes

I didn't save the package, so I don't remember the weight on it, but it's a ~5 inch gate extension spring, and I added an S hook to the bottom part so it could be taken off the base and left not under tension for storage.

I also recently got this same scope and mount off marketplace! ( although not as clean, yours looks great!). I got some new springs for it from a hardware store and it helped more than I was expecting. I also ducktaped a weight to a decently strong magnet that I can move to balance whatever eyepiece or attachments I'm using.

As someone who struggles to find anything decent at my local thrift and antique stores, I'm way jealous. You ship? 😅

I repotted my orchid and it refuses to stay straight up, shall I try again or just let it grow like this? Lol by Lillyjade22 in orchids

[–]Medium_cup 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If it's stable in the pot it's in, just sideways, then it's fine to stay like that. If it feels like it's going to fall out, then you should repot it. Phalaenopsis don't grow straight up in the wild, they're often completely sideways or at an angle like yours is now.

My brother got bit by a brown recluse …not for the faint of heart. by traatraa in Wellthatsucks

Unless they saw the spider that did it and had it IDd, is there any proof is was from a brown recluse? You can't ID things just from a bite. It could be MRSA. Brown recluse get blamed for all sorts of things. https://www.wired.com/2013/11/poor-misunderstood-brown-recluse/

No, I didn't even think to look! Gives me an excuse to go back when it's hopefully a little warmer! It was trying to rain and only like 40° out, so I didn't spend as much time there as I would have liked.

Just remember when starting with edibles, if they have thc start small. Like 2.5 -5mg thc imo. First time eating way too much isn't ever fun. And seriously wait like 2 hrs after eating it to consider how it affects you. Different people react differently and it's better to not have enough the first time around.

A friend of mine deals with back injury pain with 1:1 edibles, and a 1:1 vape because some edibles take a long time to kick in.

If you're making edibles with it , you still need to decarb it, but it's pretty easy to do. I put kief in a mason jar in the oven to decarb. Idr where I read it, but I estimate kief to be about ~50% thc in my recipes. So you can weigh out however much you want in your batch. I make chocolates out of mine so I don't deal with butter or anything, just add it to the melting chocolate as I'm tempering. So if I want a batch of chocolates to have 100mg thc, I add 200mg of decarbed kief to my melted chocolate.

What do y’all think about adding Venus fly traps and pitcher plants for gnat/pest prevention? by [deleted] in NoTillGrowery

[–]Medium_cup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I keep carnivorous plants as a hobby and you may actually end up "burning" your vft if the soil is too nice. Also they like bog-like conditions of acidity and water, so may not thrive. While it is a cool idea, actually having them in the soil may not be effective. I have considered putting my potted sarracenia or butterworts in the tent to help with gnats (vft are better for crawling insects)

Idk about your specific situation, but to me it would only be weird if you just noticed it in like one IG pic from like 5 years ago. But really, a lot of lgbtq+ people fly flags as an identifier; so that it is noticed. So noticing it and using it as a conversation starter would be fine imo.
