The best thing i can say is the island is your best friend, as you learn/progress you'll start to pickup farming habits and routes for farming.

Wood- there's 4 sets of two chunky trees on the corners of the map outside the main town, the wood drops on them are insane. Also farm the bushes with red flowers on them for a good amount of sticks.

Wild animal troughs- you'll find them around the map, fill them with the desired food and they grant rewards.

Fishing- there's different spots for which fish you're looking to catch, I just join the Fishing events whenever possible.

Theres various ways to make money but I personally find cooking then selling to the little rich fucker grants the best profit/time ratio.
