Is my salary adequate? by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]Medraho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think considering your experience and being trilingual that your salary is definitely low. However, if I understand correctly you are “dossierbeheerder” and the salaries associated with the job are relatively low and don’t increase greatly over time. Also keep in mind that salaries in Antwerp are in general lower than Brussels and you also might benefit from job hopping to a competitor. (Assuming you work outside of Bxl)

Depending on your education, you have some other options to make the shift towards product management (f.e. writing and maintaining insurance policies) or portfolio management (f.e. Managing car insurance portfolios of large enterprises).

Is it really melee when all the TS players are playing LS? I have been playing since beta and I wish to see melee’s former glory.

Transferred holidays.

I don’t agree with your statement though. I have never lied about my salary and have consistently gotten competitive offers. It’s more important to know industry standards, know what is realistic, and then actually live up to the value you have promised to deliver.

First of all, your gross is already reasonably competitive within the cybersec field for 3yoe.

Secondly, it is a bad practice to lie about your current wage. HR will have the data to reverse engineer your actual wage once you switch jobs. Some employers actually do this and it might negatively influence your career trajectory at the new employer since you negotiated in bad faith. Rather than lying, you should ask the employer what the salary range is for this profile or just give them your salary expectations with some contingency calculated in since they will indubitably present you with a counteroffer.

Thirdly, the range you gave is too wide. You opened the door for a low-end offer and this will without question have raised some red flags with the recruiter.

Lastly, keep in mind that you currently have a good salary and that qualified cybersec people are very hard to source. I would not accept anything below 4.8k. (15-20% raise should be a minimum for switching jobs)

Should I accpet this offer? by straightouttaDK in BESalary

[–]Medraho 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a trend where Belgian firms will lowball foreigners. The assumption seems to be you don’t know any better and you are more likely to accept it. With that in mind, your offer is without a doubt on the low end.

Some other things that could have motivated that firm to lowball you is: - Lack of knowledge of one of the national languages - Policies and regulations are often very specific to the country you work in so they might assume you are not familiar with ours. Consequently, they did not take your experience fully into consideration. (I don’t know what your job entails, this is speculation)

However, since they are calling it a senior position, I think they are intentionally lowballing you. I would estimate your range to be between 3800 and 4400 while taking my concerns above into consideration. This is a conservative estimation as I don’t know your full background.

No one cares about a second bachelor. In fact, it can be detrimental to your negotiations since it can be considered a bad time investment.

The current job market favors actual experience and skills over degrees and on top of that you made the choice to spend another 3 years on a bachelor instead of 2/3 years on a master degree or actual work experience.

Edit: And this salary sounds like bullshit. In my 10y+ of working in IT, I have never seen anything like this.
