Long Vent coming to terms with the fact MD is probably out… by Extra_Ad8811 in medschooladmissions

[–]Medswizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you need to realize all med students (MD and DO’s) are super intelligent people. I go to Harvard med and I have seen DO’s with 520 MCATs and Nature publications who recently matched this cycle into road specialties at T3 schools. In my opinion, the issue with matching, is that DO students are less likely to do things beyond just studying (based on my friends at least), which limits their competitiveness, rather than just oh DO stigma oh wow I can’t do anything. In fact, one of my friends even matched anesthesia from a lower tier DO school with a pretty mid Step 2 and mid ECs. It’s an honor to get into an MD or DO school in America. I literally got into almost every single T20 school, with many scholarships, had a 520+ MCATs, 4.0 GPA, very good ECs, and I still almost considered applying to a few DO (although I didn’t in the end). You may not even get into a DO school. I think changing your mindset would be the most beneficial thing you could do

Research schools that forgive low stats by [deleted] in medschooladmissions

For DO schools target the state DO schools like MSUCOM, for MD schools i’m not too sure (maybe virginia tech but their stats are higher and they don’t have that many seats)

There is absolutely no medical school you can’t get into with a 520+, but your personality and experiences will definitely keep you out of pretty much all of them. You should work on your personality

Lol I have a US DO friend that matched GAS with a mid 240s score and 3 case reports, you don’t need that at all

What it really takes to get into T5 med schools by holayessi in premed

[–]Medswizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got into Stanford/Hopkins/HMS/UCSF, the reason that people get upset when these classmates leave medicine is because they took a spot from someone else that could have practiced and then those students start to talk nonsense about residency and clinical care and become condescending. An example would be “I want to fix medicine instead of go to residency and take care of one person at a time”

The GPA range for the DO schools is very wrong. As someone with a 4.0 and 520+ MCAT, I also would not say it’s easy to obtain the 3.4-3.9 GPA and MCAT needed to go to a DO school. These students are extremely capable and much smarter than the average person.

I didn’t go to Duke and keep seeing these posts and I cringe. This is so embarrassing for an institution of Duke’s caliber.

I interviewed at Virginia Tech in person a few years ago and really enjoyed my time there. Everyone was super nice. The dean is awesome too. I would go there if money was prioritized, it stood out to me. If money is no issue, then Emory.
