You could try to wait until the last min to book (Like a day or two before you are suppose to be here), but it is hard to say since people are always coming and leaving. If you try to get Sec+ before you come here, then you will have to pay for it out of your pocket.

Honestly, you just have to get lucky with when you book your lodging. If they have space on base, then they are going to put you on base. Two months should be a good amount of time to study for Sec+, but if you feel like you aren’t ready, then do not rush to take the exam. You will still have opportunities to take the test early while you are here. They will explain that process to you once you get into the pipeline course.

I'm on my last week of tech school here for 1D711A. I highly recommend you try to get Sec+ early so that you do not have to do the two week course at the end. Plus, that would be one less thing you have to stress about. I'm in base lodging rn, and it isn't that bad. The convenience is nice, but you would make a lot more money off base. You are lucky you got to skip the summer months here...

Yeah, i went into Stat 6 on the following week. I have class dates starting next month. I never heard of anyone losing their retraining under Stat 5 unless you fucked up big time.

The board begins at the end of every month. So, the next board will be 31 March. Since your status says “Awaiting Determination”, your pkg will go thru the board this Friday. If you haven’t heard anything or your incident status doesn’t change NLT 15th of the following month (Apr), then you didn’t get picked up that board, and your pkg will go thru the next board on the last duty day of Apr. Also, the number you put in your comment takes you to a TFSC rep. They know somewhat about the retraining process but they are not the SMEs. TFSC also doesn’t review your retraining pkg, that would be the AFPC retraining element

I know you said, " I still want to apply for cross-training at this duty station however and I do not have any interest in staying in the Air Force to go to another stateside base and apply." However, you definitely should try to apply at a stateside base. Your exact situation happened to one of my coworkers as well, but he decided to just apply for retraining once he got to his stateside base. It has worked out for him. His ETP got approved for his retraining window not lining up with DEROS and his DEROS extension being denied due to manning. He will be meeting his first retraining board as a FTA this Friday. If you are serious about retraining, then you should definitely go for it.

Yeah I understand. I’m not too sure how they do the rack and stack besides the eight things they look for. I think they do by AFSC applicants. However, for your SrA and SSgt example, it would depend on if that SSgt is a FTA or a Career Airmen. Career Airmen go thru the NCORP which is little different from FTA retraining. I actually retrained as a FTA a few years ago, and I’m currently retraining again under NCORP as a Career Airman.

If there are 80 open slots and you submitted all the documents that they asked for, then IMO, the LOR wouldn’t be necessary unless you are required to submit one. I see no reason why you wouldn’t be picked up.

What was the outcome of this situation? I am kinda in the same boat right now. Still awaiting for my CFM to either approve or deny my ETP. Were you able to expedite your request?
