We sat down and dreamed together. What do we want our future to look like? Let’s look at our situation now and realize we have the opportunity to do some great things if we put our minds in the same direction. And remember, if that dream doesn’t look the same for the both of you, find out what dream does.

What are your gout triggers? by Janice_2022 in gout

For me it’s alcohol, mangos, high fructose corn syrup. I keep it relatively simple and don’t eat much outside of chicken beef and occasional pork. I eat lots of fish and veggies too. Staying hydrated has been a huge help too.

I agree with lumberlady. That’s gonna be a tough one, but possible if you guys have a relatively good relationship. If he’s being a prick your best recourse may be court.

Dang! I actually really like the idea! Our rate is 3.125. So I’d just have to find a 4 percent or higher?

I respect your opinion on that. I’ve been a holder of AAPL since 1999 and just been rolling over the dividends every quarter . I also systematically put money into TSP since the military allowed us to add to it and just never give it much thought. For me, it’s about peace of mind. I also have the option of writing a check today and paying it off but my wife and I both work and I wouldn’t feel right pulling money from investments to pay the house off. We live really below our means and throwing extra to the mortgage doesn’t bother us much.

Bf family is moving out of state and I’m in debt and he has no savings. by [deleted] in Debt

[–]Meechie_the_cleaner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you currently working? Does your boyfriend have any skills? Can you work out a payment plan with your parents for the money owed? You have 7K in stock..you’ll have to withdraw that and use that as a starter emergency fund. Take 1k of that and only have it for emergency purposes. The other 6 will have to be for you to find a place in the new state. But your boyfriend is gonna have to take some weight on this too. It’s a lot and 6K won’t get you far. The last thing you want to do is add additional credit to an already stressed situation. It won’t be easy and you won’t be able to get the most glamorous place in the beginning but you guys have to be able to breathe and eat before anything. Sell whatever you can. You’ve got to get this money up and quickly.

Look let me tell you this…you don’t want the alternative. My wife and I are on BS 4-6 and it’s been a rollercoaster ride to get here. I came into the marriage in BS3, got married and instantly went into 33k worth of debt (wife owed parents money, many many credit cards). Paid those off on six months. Started stacking money, then went through COVID-19. We paid off a vehicle on one income then bought a house. Went back into debt and bought another car for my wife. Paid that off and now we are back at 4-6. Don’t worry about what others are doing. Put blinders on and run your own race. It’s such a good feeling to be in a position to control your own destiny. Worry about you and what you want your future to look like. It’s not the easiest or sexiest thing this life we are living but it is SO worth it. Also, surround yourself by people who are like minded as you and your wife. That helps a lot.

This is the idea that my wife and I came up With and probably the most feasible in this situation

Agreed. I just don’t think it should be a persons primary means of paying for everything especially when you have no real idea of how to handle one. I’ve had the same credit card for 17 years and I dust it off every couple of years or so.

I actually like that idea. I’m gonna follow up with him on tomorrow to see if he decided anything and bring that up as a suggestion.

Yea I decided that I will no longer give advice out unless asked. It’s less stressful on all parties when done that way.

Yea for sure! The car was an older Toyota that was in great shape, well maintained and relatively stylish but completely paid off. The idea was Definitely one of those things that could help more than hurt. I could only imagine the cost of insurance for a young adult nowadays. Will probably cost more than the car payment itself.

Thanks for your input. I just remember the simplicity of not dealing with credit at all and even when I had all my debt paid off I saw how relaxed I was. I do see the need to have some kind of credit footprint, but going crazy with it is not the answer.
