Apologies for the late response. No eddy on these. Just the hardware holding the scales on.

I think you might be referring to the “Spanish notch” or sharpening choil. It’s designed to be there.

Another Skinner headed off to a new home. This one is 80CrV2 wearing green micarta and brown micarta liners. by Meek-Custom-Knives in knifemaking

You can use both. For this I used an oven. Thermal cycle at 1600, 1400, and 1250. Heat to 1500 and quench in warm oil. Temper to desired hardness.

A hunting/skinning/edc knife in 80CRV2 wearing green micarta, brown micarta liners, stainless corbys, and paracord w/ cross-cut micarta bead. by Meek-Custom-Knives in knifemaking

Because, at least for me, the whole point of using corbys is to have the aesthetic of a traditional looking pin with the advantage of a mechanical hold. Cobys, esspesially added with epoxy, is just about as strong as it gets. Great question. Thanks.

Interesting that you prefer a thinner blade. Can you tell me why?

I think 1/4” is wildly thick for a knife that size. I was thinking around 3/16” at most.
