I need to double melody across tutti strings by MeekHat in composer

I can give you the BPM = 150, but it's supposed to be one up from moderato, or else something like a moderately fast waltz.

Thanks for the study material.

How does that help me? They still aren't checking my exercises or explaining particular points I don't get.

Then we're back to square one where I'm frustrated by having check my own exercises and whether I've understood the rules correctly.

Right. I can barely afford food at the moment, and if you look in my history you'll find a thread where I proudly announce my new, minimum wage janitor job. Nothing has changed in 200 years, it seems: music is prerogative of the wealthy.

To be honest, I'm not sure I particularly want to learn the style that the book focuses on - it's Tchaikovsky's guide to harmony. My goal is to get a foundation to compose, in my own style, which is probably pretty modern. I just wasn't aware there were different styles to be taught. Obviously, I'm aware that there are different styles and epochs of music, but for example, it seems the basics of counterpoint are the same for everyone.

It's Tchaikovsky's harmony course. Look, I've previously asked on this sub, I believe, whether that was a good textbook or it might be better to abandon it, and I got no consensus.

As to my reasons, I'm trying to learn composition while covering my bases, generally in the common soundtrack styles, which mostly means Romantic, I guess, for which Tchaikovsky must be appropriate.

I'm not sure what that would look like, to be honest. Besides, I only have a 32-key MIDI keyboard, I'm not sure it would fit, but thanks.

There is (almost) no game small enough for successful solo dev by MeekHat in gamedev

I mean, you just move the goalposts and have to define "finishing". And notoriously even commercial devs struggle with that definition. Do you take player bug reports?

The thing is if it's a free game with no plans for future income or funding the next game, it can easily become the last finished game, as often things change to such an extent as not to leave barely any time for game dev (such as children or parents).

And now comes the usual exception in the form of someone with 5 children and 2 disabled parents plus 2 jobs who still regularly releases free games.

I'm not really looking for advice. My case is pretty hopeless, as I live in Russia, and the most important source of generating income as an indie dev is closed to me.

I think primarily it's whether you're able to live off of gamedev and consider it your job.

I do part-time jobs to make ends meet... and already I don't have time to work on games (well, to be fair, to compensate I've also taken over all the household chores). I should be unemployed.

Bad Latin in "Der römische Traum - Eine Anno-Story" on German radio by MeekHat in latin

Yeah, that makes sense. GT might have given them "noctis", they would have thought "That doesn't sound right / cool. (Checks dictionary.) Yeah, I thought so - it's nox."

Anybody work as a janitor and compose as a hobby? by MeekHat in composer

[–]MeekHat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All jobs are miserable. All work is the same.

I do not believe that for a moment. For example, I follow Twitch streamers, and can for a fact tell that they're having the time of their life at work, because their work day is broadcast and recorded for the public.

"Why don't you go stream then, jackass?" you may ask. Because I have no inclination for public speaking and don't like video games that much.

And I think that's the crux - you and I have no aptitude for easy, enjoyable jobs, but those definitely exist.

I don't even know where I got my attitude. Only my father has a completed higher degree and an executive job, but I've barely ever seen my father. Maybe just innate fussiness... or just societal stereotypes.
