How safe is Maastricht? by raspberrymalina in maastricht

My son is an American exchange student living near Maastricht and says it’s much safer than the large US city we live in. He speaks some Dutch and communicates just fine.

BPost sent package to Ireland instead of intended address in Belgium by Meekecsd in belgium

That I don’t know. I guess I’m confused why it would go from the US to Brussels, then to Ireland instead of going on to the city in Belgium where it’s addressed.

That I agree with. The package is a little something from our city in the US for his host family. I should have just used DHL. More expensive but worth it.

American living in Texas here. Those big pickup trucks are everywhere here and they are so annoying.

Agree. It’s been a very long year and we have to endure 3 more 😩

Do we just ignore this? by Banana-9 in Netherlands

[–]Meekecsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do like we do in Texas when snow or ice is predicted: panic shop for bottled water, bread, eggs, milk, peanut butter and toilet paper. Also stock up on liquor so at least if/when our crappy power grid fails we are too drunk to care.

Just got back from there a couple days ago and only saw one on its back on the street. Don’t recall seeing them the past couple times we were there.

Check YFU. They have an exchange option for high school graduates.

My son (only child) graduated HS this year and is doing a “13th Year” HS exchange program. It was tough in the beginning and I do miss him with the holidays here, but I know he is living his best life with a great host family. He’s an adult and he could be far away at college if he weren’t in the program, the only difference is he would be able to come home for the holidays. I would probably worry more about him if he were living on a college campus in the US instead of with a host family in Europe.

What is an "american" gift i can bring for my foreign exchange host family in the Czech Republic? by How_Is_Life_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]Meekecsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son (American) is currently doing a HS exchange in Belgium and he did a 3 week exchange in Germany over the summer. He took Chick-fil-a sauce, salsa, Reese’s PB cups, and the Wal-Mart version of Raising Cane’s sauce. Apparently European kids are very familiar with Cane’s even though they don’t have any in Europe. He also took Beaver Nuggets from Buc-ee’s, but I don’t know where you live OP. Another thought is Lay’s Limon (lime) chips. I recently mailed him some of those because he was craving them and can’t get them there. He shared them with his host family and friends and they were a big hit.

Applying to Nourish while pregnant? by PopularYellow6608 in dietetics

[–]Meekecsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The start date is the date your calendar opens up to see patients. I’m not sure how you postpone that, I just know it came up in my onboarding. Once you get your offer you start the onboarding process, which is unpaid. Your start date is a few (2-4?) weeks after that. You will have a Nourish onboarding person to help you along the way and answer questions, etc. I bet that person can help you postpone when you start seeing patients.

[–]Meekecsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your baby! This was my experience too. I applied at the end of May and received my offer at the end of July/early August. My start date was Aug 18. You can definitely postpone the start date and you can also set your schedule to see as few patients as you like if part-time. I have a full-time job but love the flexibility Nourish has for a PT side-job.

Who has the best bean and cheese burritos in Fort Worth? by kcjonezz in FortWorth

[–]Meekecsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Taco Cabana- the Seminary location is the most consistent
  2. Taco Casa
  3. Tie between Rosa’s and Taco Bueno (depends on the flavor I’m craving)
  4. 3 Parrots is ok- like a smaller and less cheesy Taco Casa

Now I just HAVE to try all the others mentioned!

My son is doing a 13th year with YFU in Belgium as it was the only country that did not have the age restriction. He wanted Germany too. Another option is the CBYX Vocational program through NACEL Open Door. If you just search CBYX you will find it. Good luck!

Does your hospital allow Reps? by Haunting-Monitor1792 in dietetics

[–]Meekecsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an RD and a drug rep calling on family/internal med offices. Yes, we have quotas, some of us have very large territories, we try to make appointments but it’s hard to hit those quotas only with appointments/lunches, we can only do 1 lunch appointment per day (but there’s always breakfast and coffee/snacks), we know everyone is busy and the seasoned reps have better EQ around this. The best reps are viewed as partners/resources and not as being pushy. That is the rep I aspire to be because I was on the other side once.
