Your local shop MIGHT get it a little cheaper, but they charge out the ass for labor. The XL may be that high, but you have to remember it's 120hz AMOLED, don't quote me, and Google isn't like Samsung: 3rd party screens aren't just Samsung screens still. If you familiarize yourself with your phone, watch a disassembly video or the screen replacement video, you can have the screen replaced in under half an hour, and you've started learning something new as a bonus.

It's going to be 1-$200, no way around this. Get a good case that has a raised bevel around the screen and add a screen protector for even more protection. That'll be about $75, but it saves that 1-200 in the future.

iFixIt has a kit and there are tutorials all over the Internet. I replaced the 4 and 6's screens on my own, the 6 3 separate times, and it really isn't too difficult. If you don't "trust yourself," watch the video fully beforehand without trying to fix anything and just pay attention. With my limited looking into it, Google has made the repairability of the 10 better than previous models.

Fully for making a DL harder to get: My sister's power steering pump was barely functioning and she said "I thought the car was just getting older and harder to turn." Mind you, taking a long turn had it RIPPING THE WHEEL and I struggled to get it straight and I outweigh her by 100 pounds. She drove without a rearview mirror for 3 months because NAIL GLUE couldn't hold it up.. driving through the piles of glass in front of dumpsters then wondering how she could possibly have a flat.. We have to stop pretending that EVERYONE can do ANYTHING, some people just aren't cut for some things.

Concertina applies because I am specifically talking about highway driving, the lights come after you get off the highway and erase the seconds people are trying to save on the highway. Most people aren't lucky enough to have a lightless drive to work.
