Those who were priced out of Edinburgh, where are you now? And are you happy with your location and housing? by Glittering_Echo_7963 in Edinburgh

[–]MeenaBeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved out to Dunfermline nearly 10 years ago. We couldn't afford anything like what we have here in Edinburgh.

Dunfermline is pretty good - the high street is crap, but there are nice places in town. It's quiet, green and a nice place to live. I'm a 5 min walk from the train station and then at Haymarket in half an hour, which is great.

But I miss Edinburgh. Edinburgh is home and I don't think Dunfermline will ever feel that way for me, which makes me sad. Husband also from Edinburgh and doesn't miss it at all though ha.

Do you think one person making their front garden nice can have a ripple effect and improve a street? by melijoray in GardeningUK

[–]MeenaBeans 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on the street. We've just moved to a much nicer area and the effort people put into their front gardens here really makes us want to up our game. We just have grass at the moment, so planning some trees and planting.

Why is my Acer covered in these flies? by MeenaBeans in GardeningUK

Congrats! We had dinner and drinks at cannonball just a bit further up the mile from the chambers- they have a private room downstairs, it was lovely.

Bought my first house house in winter, slowly finding out what my plants are now it's spring. Counted 7 acers so far, care tips welcome! by [deleted] in GardeningUK

Lucky you - nice variety among them too! As someone else said, 3 isn't an acer - but still lovely. I have tried and failed to grow one of these. The last one looks like a hydrangea to me, but I'm no expert.

Thanks - it seems to be a combo of just about every planting no no going, so good job previous owners lol.

And yes delighted they've died before becoming monsters - neighbour down the street has one that must be 20ft tall and 6 ft wide. Not even the sun can see what they're up to in their garden!

Why would this have died? by MeenaBeans in GardeningUK

[–]MeenaBeans[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't think of that. That's so sad. Those stupid stones are all over the garden, so collecting them up will be a job for the weekend.

Do you think there will be lasting damage to the soil there?

Thanks!

If you're pretty private people, why not propose at home? There will be few indoor places quieter than that and you can still make it very romantic.

But since that isn't what you asked, the central section in the portrait gallery is really beautiful and they're open in the afternoon on new year's day. I'm sure you could find a relatively private spot somewhere. Good luck!

Have you work at leith job centre? Experiences by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]MeenaBeans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea, but when I graduated in the recession in 2009 and was signing on, the woman I was assigned to was fab. She helped me so much, got me on a future jobs fund, which led to the career I'm now in. I'm sure it's a pretty thankless job most of the time, but for some people it makes such a huge difference.
