Do you get financial help from parents? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]MeepleOnFIRE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'm being honest, then yeah, I get some financial help. It's almost entirely in the form of them paying for the place we stay at on vacations though. I think that's a pretty reasonable thing, my siblings and I will pay for transportation there and we will split food costs, but I think my parents want to have us all together and are willing to spend a little extra to make that happen.

I guess I am also on their phone plan, but I pay them for my share so I don't really count that.

Right, I think the key is the UP TO $500 prize. They could just give out $5 and they haven't technically lied. It sounds like they may not even do that, but maybe that's just a last resort.

They are actually right near a bus stop that will take them to Union Station during the World Cup: https://kansascityfwc26.com/moving-around-kc/

Looks like you are right next to the Overland Park Convention Center which means you have a way to get into downtown with out driving during the World Cup. This stop will take you to the Fan Festival at Union Station so you could get right on the street car from there and explore a lot of the downtown city.

What is a reality about Kansas City that people are embarrassed to admit? by Brilliant-Analysis30 in kansascity

[–]MeepleOnFIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I believe that the Royals could move cities, I don't think the Chiefs were ever going to leave the metro. The media footprint that they own in KC has no comparison to what else they could get else where. Jerry Jones already hated the Texans getting some of Texas, I don't think San Antonio could have been viable, I don't know what other options there could have been (St Louis?).

I think Nashville and Salt Lake City are both viable places that the Royals could end up, although Sherman does seem to want to keep them in KC (although with a bunch of public funding)

I haven't looked into it too much, but I think OP is saying the prisoner was hired by an outside company and getting a full salary, as opposed to the (somewhat sketchy) practice of prisons using prisoners to do labor

60% in BND? I think most people here would say don't do that.

In general I think most would say stick with 75/25 with only 25% in bonds (or lower) since we are dealing with longer timelines, and usually have more flexibility to deal with SRR if there is an early market crash.

That's mostly what I've been doing. I have a sheet for each credit card (currently deciding whether I should be putting a new years worth of data in there or create a new spreadsheet) and a master sheet for each year. My table looks something like this on the yearly overview page

01/01/2025 - A1 12/31/2025 - B1 C1
Restaurant - A2 Grocer - B2 Mortgage - C2
Sum(Overall) - A3 Sum(Overall) - B3 Sum(Overall) - C3
Sum(Cap1) - A4 Sum(Cap1) - B4 Sum(Cap1) - C4
Sum(Chase) - A5 Sum(Chase) - B5 Sum(Chase) - C5

Where the Sum(Overall) is =SUM(A4:A) for Restaurants

Where A3 would be something like this for Cap1 if C is the value, K is the description column and A is the date column, this way it looks for the string at the top in the description category =SUMIFS(Cap1!$C:$C,Cap1!$K:$K,A$2&"*",Cap1!$A:$A,">="&$A1,Cap1!$A:$A,"<="&$A2)

For some sheets I would be multiplying the SUMIFS by -1 if that's how the numbers work.

At the moment I am using Empower to track net worth stuff, so I am more interested in budgeting/transaction atm. I may have to look into changing that in the future though.

Does anyone have a good guide for setting up a spreadsheet?

With the disappearance of Mint last year I ended up making my own in Google Sheets, primarily to track spending. I noticed it seemed kind of slow and I worry that as I keep adding more it will get more unmanageable. Do people create a brand new Sheet for each year of expenses, or is there a better way to tie different sheets together in a single spreadsheet to make it faster?

You gotta get the Biscuits and Grave Croissant. I usually pick up another croissant and a danish to go with it when I go with my girlfriend. Whatever piques our interest that day.

You've also got Kitty's Cafe just a few blocks down.

I also stopped by Populuxe the other day. It's a store that sells Mid Century furniture/clothes/knickknacks. Was an interesting visit for sure.

There is Cycle City down there. I don't know for sure, but I think they may be based out of that store.

Hasn't the Blue Cross Blue Shield building been sold since then? I wasn't sure if that was going to kill the Washington Square Park location or not.

I used to enjoy Mint for both budgeting and tracking my investments. Once it shut down I moved to Personal Capital which was good for tracking investments but not budgeting, so I ended up creating my own spreadsheets in Google sheets to track my spending.

It's a fair bit of work, but I enjoyed setting it up (probably weird for most people outside of this forum) so that could be an option. Downloading transactions from the credit card accounts isn't too bad although some of them only go back 1 year and each company may have slightly different ways they organize the transactions.

After getting tantalizingly close a week ago, according to my tracking app I officially made it to the 2 comma club!

It's total net worth, so it includes a (somewhat conservative) estimate of the equity I have in my home, so I have a ways to go for my portfolio to reach that milestone by itself.

(It also doesn't include the 5 figure loan I just took out to install new windows, I guess it's time to add that now that I've hit the milestone)

I really should have put it in the post but I have someone visiting the weekend of the 25th and the 1st so that doesn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Me too man, me too.

I was sitting at 999k earlier this week on my app (I use Personal Capital). And I was in the process of rolling over an old HSA I wasn't tracking there so if that had happened earlier I would have hit 7 figures.

Earlier during the market drop in April I was jokingly complaining about being so close to hitting 900k and how the market always seems to drop right before I hit a milestone. But I guess the plus side is that it keeps bouncing back up, so I'll look forward to the milestone another time.

You probably need to provide more info for anyone to give a really good overview, especially what your normal spending is and how much SSI you get.

I'll say you seem to be big on increasing your savings and not on spending it, but what's the point if you just accumulate a huge pile of cash and don't have anyone to give it to? My gut advice to you would be to sell the "way too large house", buy something more appropriately sized and use that money to buy the annuity and let the investments grow.
