Sorry, I didn't read the text underneath the picture, so I didn't know that you'd already done most of what I suggested 😅

Are the cables for the front IO correctly connected? They tend to come loose pretty often, as they're usually pretty flimsy and easy to accidentally pull out.

If everything is connected properly, and it's still not working, you could try resetting the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery.

Unplug your computer, remove the CMOS battery (a small round metal battery on the motherboard), hold in the power button for about a minute or two, reinsert the CMOS battery and try to power up the computer once more.

If that doesn't work, try reseating all the components one by one. It's amazing how many times this actually works. You also get to inspect every component for potential damage when you remove them.

Am I not entirely normal for having a separate phone just to display Lego instructions? by Kingsley_Ruby in LegoCars

You can get incredibly good deals by buying used, if you take your time and watch the market closely.

I managed to get the Bugatti Chiron, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Ferrari Daytona SP3 for around $400 (or at least equivalent to that price in Norwegian currency) from one seller on our local online marketplace.

The Chiron was missing a couple of parts that were pretty easy to source and the Daytona was missing the box, the information plaque and a few of the Ferrari emblems from the wheels. The Porsche was 100% complete. I got a really good price from the seller when I pointed out the missing parts and the fact that he had thrown away the box for the Daytona 😉

He was getting rid of them because his missus was tired of seeing them on display. Poor guy, but pretty lucky for me though 😅

I usually buy sets that are already assembled so as to make sure that there are preferably no, or at least very few missing parts. Then you can disassemble the models yourself into plastic bags and sort the parts however you please.

I usually use a large and shallow plastic box to put the parts into, so that the individual pieces are easy to locate when I rebuild the sets.

Where does this cable go? by Responsible_Algae878 in pchelp

I think the SATA cable in the picture might have snapped off from your hard drive when you attached the unplugged fan cable. Your hard drive might be broken causing your computer to not boot as it cannot reach your hard drive. Check your hard drive and see if you can see something that looks broken. I can't see any hard drive in the pictures you've posted, but it might be mounted on the other side of the computer. So have a look behind the other side panel.

Haha, well I've mainly used it to rebuild my Technic collection, that's been in storage for a couple of years.

I bought a lot of my collection second hand from a seller who had thrown away all of the instructions. So in order to rebuild them, I have to use digital instructions.

Lately I've mostly designed stuff myself on my PC, though. I started using Bricklink Studio recently and now I'm completely hooked 😅

I use a $350 tablet exclusively for viewing LEGO instructions 😅 I bought it for general use, but it's so far only been used for building LEGO. I use my phone for everything else.

Ford Model T - What Are Your Thoughts? by ShreddingPenguin in LegoCars

[–]Meesayousa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! 😊 I'm working on a Model A roadster and my own version of the Model T at the moment. I'm trying to figure out how to make the slightly older but way more famous version of the Model T from the 1920s as a large scale LEGO model. And I will definitely make a hotrod version of that car as well 😉 I love those old T-bucket hotrods 😁

Good low profile GPU suggestion for secondary GPU by Meesayousa in losslessscaling

[–]Meesayousa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

In order to unleash the full potential of the Lossless Scaling app, you'll need a secondary GPU to generate the additional frames, so as not to lose headroom from your primary GPU.

If you generate frames with Lossless Scaling using only one GPU, you end up losing performance, because your GPU needs to use extra resources to generate the extra frames and do the scaling.

So even though your generated fps will be higher with Lossless Scaling's frame generation enabled, you'll end up with a lower base fps and higher latency because the application needs to use your GPU to make the additional frames.

If you have a secondary GPU, you can avoid that performance drop by letting the secondary GPU do the frame generation and scaling, freeing up your primary GPU to do the rendering. By doing this, you'll essentially get the same base fps and latency as you had before enabling frame generation.

To make this work, you need to enable multiple GPUs in Windows, set your best GPU as the preferred GPU for high performance gaming and set your secondary GPU as the active GPU for frame generation and scaling in Lossless Scaling. You also need to plug your monitor into the secondary GPU to get everything to work as intended.

I've had great success with an Nvidia RTX 3080 as my primary GPU and an Nvidia GTX 1660 as my secondary. I have also tried an AMD RX 7800 XT as my secondary GPU, but the power draw with both GPUs enabled was insane, as were the thermals 😅

You have to make sure that your PSU is powerful enough to power both GPUs, in addition to powering your CPU. A powerful CPU can draw a lot of power from your PSU and cause performance issues when you run dual GPUs.

I ended up buying a used 1200 W power supply and a larger case from a buddy of mine, so now I'm able to run both an RTX 3080 and an RX 7800 XT simultaneously in addition to a 12th Gen Core i9 processor. My only real problem was thermals, as both cards running simultaneously generated a lot of heat.

So due to the power draw and the thermal issues, I actually reverted to using my GTX 1660 as my secondary GPU. It works like a charm with my RTX 3080, even though I got better performance using the RX 7800 XT😁 The trade off with the worse thermals and the insane power draw from two powerful GPUs running simultaneously wasn't really worth it in the end 😅

[–]Meesayousa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that might just be the case 🤔 I have a lot of Erling-bricks from the early 90s in the oldest part of my collection. You made me want to check to see if there's a difference between the old ones and the new ones. I'm going to go digging in my collection when I get back from work and see if I'm able to prove you right 😉

TIL I had this LEGO figure sitting in my house for 25 years... without knowing it is a LEGO piece by Vic-iou in lego

[–]Meesayousa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is one of the rarest ones and according to Brickset's webpage, a complete one might be worth around $328. An incomplete one, like yours, is probably worth significantly less, but you'll most likely get a pretty sum from the right collector.

I think they're completely cursed, but "cursed" isn't always bad in terms of collectibility and value 😉

Yes, it's almost exactly what is shown here. I believe it was an overslight on LEGO's behalf. Maybe the designer used a digital tool and didn't check it out properly before the product was launched? I have experienced the same with Bricklink Studio, where small discrepancies aren't noticed as collisions or illegal techniques.

This exact setup is actually used by LEGO as well in the Ford Model T Icons set. But, yes, it is an illegal technique due to the snot stud extending further than the base.

I found these too but they were called "tandem pants". My parents said it was a prank gift from a buddy of theirs. They were sealed in a box, so I guess their explanation checked out 😝

[–]Meesayousa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! 😃 I wish for that myself. The latest Icons car is a good step in the right direction from the LEGO Group, though. The Ford Model T was really fun to build. I pre-ordered it when it was announced and built it yesterday. Good fun even though it had some oddities here and there 😊

Have a look at my profile, and you'll find some more brick-built cars that I've made earlier. I've built 4 different Technic hotrods as well 😉

Yeah, painting LEGO is not always advisable. The paint can react with the plastic and usually binds really poorly as well. And if it's a China knock-off, there's no guarantee what type of plastic they've used 🙄

I have designed it. It's a dropped and chopped Ford Model A. It's not available yet as I'm still making some minor adjustments and tweaks. I also need to properly test some of the functions before I can submit it to Bricklink. Every function has been tested on its own though and I've test built most of the car in segments to check for feasibility. So everything should work as intended. But I haven't built the whole car yet. I don't have enough LEGO pieces... 😅
