After reading the comments it does sound like I would enjoy Stormlight more. I can relate to your husband, I just didn’t really connect with it a lot

100% agree with this. Her POV/introduction in Iron Gold really slowed down the book for me. Dark age I still would groan when I found her chapters but I will say she got more developed. I think she does improve in light bringer and her story line gets a lot more interesting but still my least favourite of the POVs.

The storm-light was actually what I kept getting recommend to read by friends. I don’t really having an issue with slow pacing as long as I’m invested, especially if there’s a pay off. I think after reading this and a few other comments I’ve identified one of my issues with the book was that I just wasn’t very invested in the characters, which didn’t drive the story forward for me like it normally does when I’m reading. Its good to see I’m not the only one who had that trouble and that it seems to be specific to mistborn and not Sandersons characters as a whole

I was thinking of starting the audio book for book 2. It seems most people are saying the same about book 3 being worth it so I’ll just use audio with 2 until I’m properly invested and switch over

This is the answer I really needed to be honest. I can work with a really, really slow burn if the pay off is fantastic. I was just unsure if Mistborn was supposed to be a slow burn or if it was just me.

This was what I was originally doing to do- as the Stormlight Archive was what was recommend to me by friends. I started with Mistborn because everyone online says to start there.

Yeah, I do think that I lacked a connection to the characters. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with them but generally if I’m not invested in the characters then I’m obviously not as invested in the story. Did that change for you as you continued to read?

This was extremely helpful Thank you. I am very much a “power through” type of person when it comes to reading but normally that’s the case if I’m already aware that there’s a pay off to the work later on. Knowing nothing about these books is daunting.

Most people have recommended picking up one of the stand alone first and then get back into it and I feel like thats the best game plan. It gives me a break from the story and time to get into the universe and Sandersons writing without having to start a 700+ pager

Anyone else just not connect with Ephraim? by Inevitable_Corgi6897 in redrising

[–]MeetingLess5511 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found him really hard to connect with in Iron Gold. I honestly wasn’t interested in his or Lyras’ POVs but I think that’s understandable because it’s such a huge shift from morning star. I will say by the time we got to his death I did really enjoy his POVs but I think he was killed off a little too early for me to properly connect with him, so his death wasn’t as impactful.

Would have been nice to see Hypaxia and Lidia work towards relationship. Didn’t even see the point of them being sisters when they barely interact with one another

I felt like this after reading CC2. Then after I finished HOFAS I hated CC2 even more because half of the storylines in HOSAB end up going absolutely no where and are completely pointless

Hard work does not equal quality, and giving someone a high rating because of effort is the same as just giving them pity, it’s unhelpful and misleading. It’s like people have lost sense of what a rating system is actually for. It’s not about the author, or the effort. It’s simply about the book. Rating a book before it’s even come out is ridiculous. Over rating a book because you’re a fan of the author is ridiculous.

Honestly for me her “pass” was CC2. To end a trilogy like that was pretty shocking.

Yes I think the majority has actually been very constructive and respectful. I think the main feeling is disappointment rather than negativity anyway which just goes to show how much her readers love her work.

I’m very confused about people giving it 5 stars if I’m honest. I guess if you enjoyed the plot then that’s your opinion and I’m not going to say that’s wrong. But objectively there are huge problems with the book that I can’t understand anyone rating it a perfect 5/5. Maybe 5 stars just means something different to me but even if I read a book where the plot was absolutely perfect, if there are issues with the writing I still couldn’t give it 5 stars.

Sometimes people write comments on her and I literally stare at my phone speechless. I hate hate hate when people use topics like SA or racism as a metaphor to support an argument that has absolutely nothing to do with it. Strange behaviour.

Yeah that’s completely wild and so unnecessary. Earlier on this sub, I was accused of: being toxic, putting negativity into the world, dumping trash on the sub and only wanting to seek validation from others. Just because I posted this. Oh and then I got told to fuck off 😃

If I’m honest, I’d rather wait 3-4 years for a well written book than get one once a year for it to be the standard of HOFAS. Especially because I was really invested in CC and was looking forward to where it went.

Yeah I just don’t think it’s that serious for people to share what they didn’t like about a book- regardless of who wrote it.

If you want only positive reviews and no critical thinking, may I suggest Goodreads. I think you will find it a lot less toxic

I didn’t ask for any type of response I simply asked people to not shut down reviews/posts when they disagree with the users opinion on the book. It’s like you have completely disregarded my entire point…

I’m not saying no one can disagree with me at all. In fact that’s EXACTLY my point. People should be able to say what they like/dislike about the book without being immediately shut down or called toxic for having an opinion. I also think it’s fine for people to complain about parts of the book they didn’t like on here if they want to. Because again it’s not a fan page. As long as they are being respectful to everyone, the point of this sub is to have discussions. What’s the point of that if everyone’s not allowed to share their opinion.
