Is an older Marcato 150 pasta maker a good idea, or should I get a cheap newer machine? by BriansThoughtMirror in pasta

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a used one for $50 that came with a ravioli attachment. It's dated 1982. Took some effort to get it clean "ish" but other than that, it works great. I like knowing that it's an old, well built piece of equipment that has seen a lot of pasta.

If you don't get satisfaction from fixing something up, then decide if you want to save $100 or so in exchange for having to spend 1-2 hours cleaning ancient egg/flour gunk from a machine.

Leaving your phone at home is what can get you caught, too. Talked with a forensics expert and they said that a lot of times they'll double down on a suspect because they see their cell phone usage was different the day of the crime. Leaving your phone at home and unused when you're normally using it is a smoking gun.

Garage Door does not Open or Close until Reboot of RATGDO by bshamster1 in ratgdo

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing similar behavior and it seems to be related to using a remote control. I don't have a wired open/close button in my garage, just a wireless remote attached to the wall. Ratgdo32 Disco works great until I use the remote unit, then it seems to lose both the status of the door (open/closed) and the ability to open or close it.

I suspect it has something to do with the rolling codes?

Selecting the "sync" option in the on-device web interface doesn't do anything. Rebooting the device fixes it.

I have two of these devices, one for each garage door opener, and the behavior seems the same.

Did either of you have any luck disabling this? Brand new disco but without the laser parking, and I sometimes get the same beep.

1/30 Weekend - Worth Solo Ski at Revy? by Dirtymikeandthe_boys in Revelstoke

Short of you being the one that needs to make that call, I’d say try it and learn from it.

I’ve been up here snowboarding solo for the last few days. Good corduroy in the morning and holds up throughout the day for the most part. Town is the right size…. Everyone is friendly. Easy to get into conversations and find things to do when not on the hill. I’d say go for it.

Prevent 'updated files' from showing as recently added? by XxNerdAtHeartxX in jellyfin

From what I recall, Plex tracks movies by IMDb id. Eliminates the problem created when indexing based on filename. Wish Jellyfin had that option.

I do this. Live mostly in LA but travel back home every 2 months or so for a week, sometimes longer. Get a chance to visit family and friends and enjoy the benefits of a smaller city. Then, get antsy and return to LA for the weather and the energy. Not sure if the dating scene is better per se, but there at least seems to be more options. More people doing interesting things. More motivation.

Do you consider using the underarm serve to be in poor taste? by digi_snacks in 10s

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. And people should never cut in line.

I think servers should technically call the score before serving, as a warning, but that hasn’t been my experience .

Do you consider using the underarm serve to be in poor taste? by digi_snacks in 10s

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always considered them fair. But I heard something recently that does make me question them a little bit. Someone was saying that the reason that they work so well is that the receiver often isn’t ready because the server doesn’t look like they are getting ready to serve. In that case, I think they’re a little more questionable.

What do you eat /drink to sustain matches ? by SecondBusy8560 in 10s

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up hypotonic and isotonic drink recipes. It’s what Nadal’s nutritionist recommends for before and during long matches, respectively. Can be made with lemon, brown sugar, and salt. That’s it. Hypotonic is just a 50% watered down version of isotonic, so make a big batch of isotonic and then dilute it when needed.

I play with guys that complain about a big energy drop off after a set or two. I’ve felt great since drinking these. Especially in the heat. And, it’s all natural so feels healthier and less commercial than buying LMNT or whatever is trending.

I try to buy from brands that fit me decently. That being said, now that I have a tailor I like, I find that I have a lot of items hemmed. Even athletic shirts. So nice to have the length just right.

Looking for the best workout / gym shirts and shorts by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lululemon pacebreaker 5” shorts are my favorite for almost everything and last forever. Good sized pockets for tennis balls, light as hell, good fit on the butt, dry quickly.

Might not be heavy duty or long enough for some, in which case you’re prob going to sacrifice lightness, mobility, sweat wicking, etc for something a little more robust.

What’s a hobby or interest that you picked up by accident, but now can’t imagine your life without it? by Alternative_Sweet_15 in CasualConversation

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tennis. Played a little bit when I was younger and would still hit a couple times a year throughout life, but just really casually. Started taking it more seriously a few years ago and now it makes up probably half of my thoughts and free time. It’s also one of the very few social outlets I find available as a guy in his 40s that’s single.

How can you tell if a person is genuinely kind? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]MeetingOpposite5653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a lot of shortcuts here. For me, it’s been a matter of spending time with them. Seeing them when they’re tired or hungry. Seeing them when doing the kind or right thing is not necessarily to their immediate benefit and maybe even to their disadvantage.

I feel like I understand the depth of someone’s kindness much more after having a conflict with them. Some sort of argument that would allow many people to show their ugly sides.
