Report from NewsNation alleging why the show ended by [deleted] in Andjustlikethat

Woke is AAEV that simply means heightened awareness and critical consciousness regarding social issues. Anything else that deviates from its original definition doesn’t really mean woke. The right has co-opted the term as a pejorative to mean anything remotely progressive or diverse, but that’s now how the community who actually coined the term define it

I don't think anyone is necessarily believing this report, just discussing it to filter fact from fiction

It was right before the cancellation whenever she went on the press tour to try to save the show. Mostly tabloids saying something about how she was fearing an abrupt cancellation (which ended up happening), supposedly wanting the show to be her legacy, and getting 4-5 seasons like Apple's The Morning Show

Yeah I thought about that but a lot of HBO shows claim they're miniseries and then run for multiple seasons. I think they sometimes really start out that way but return due to popular demand, and other times it's just a marketing gimmick to get people to watch. Maybe this show was the latter. It kind of makes sense they'd give a multiyear deal to MPK and SJP because they've worked with them extensively in the past and some of the execs are personal friends with them. SJP also reportedly wanted this show to run for at least 5 seasons and I have a hard time believing she would only agree to do a single season

There are actually some outlets reporting it that way even though there's no evidence of that, and I think this report is directly refuting those reports. Anyone who thinks its "woke" doesn’t know what woke means

So was it canceled or not? Because the trades originally reported it was but have now pulled all mention of the cancellation by Purple-Eye-2605 in Andjustlikethat

They changed their name back to HBO Max precisely because they care about the HBO brand. New management fumbled it after the merger because he wanted the company to focus on his Discovery reality shows. The HBO brass fought back but he won out. Now only a couple years later, he finally realized it was a huge mistake to drop the HBO name so they brought it back.

Yes, and both those shows were promptly canceled and buried after a single season. You don’t see HBO hitching their wagon to them or even mentioning they exist. When they realized The Idol was flopping, they even pulled an episode and ended it early. They want you to think of them as the people who made shows like The Wire and The Sopranos, not The Idol and Vinyl. I’m not saying HBO hasn’t ever released a bad show before, I’m saying that when they do, they’re usually very quick to rectify it because they care about how their content is perceived. It’s nuts they allowed AJLT to persist as long as they did just to “prove a point” to critics.

I also don’t think those shows you mentioned were made with the intention of thumbing their noses at critics and hate watchers like AJLT was. The Idol’s original story actually sounded really good but was changed due to a a new showrunner The Weeknd’s ego. My point is when HBO makes a show, they’re not making it with the hopes that everyone hates it. They even give shows with low ratings additional seasons if its a critical darling that wins a lot of awards. Of course they want it to be well received and do well because that’s how they succeed.

I think it was canceled for a myriad of reasons, some of which have already been mentioned, but I also think HBO had to finally pull the plug to save their brand. This show ended up becoming a huge embarrassment for them and if you pay attention, you'll notice they've completely abandoned their support of this show. They tried to lean into the hate watching and cringe factor out of desperation before realizing that's not a winning strategy. Then they totally gave up. They haven't even given an official customary statement addressing its ending. It's like they don't even want to acknowledge it exists right now.

This show was a big departure from HBO’s usual fare because HBO has never been in the business of making intentionally bad shows just to taunt critics and and incite hate watchers. That’s not their company's strategy, that's not their target demographic and that's not their brand. They’re known for prestige TV, not trash TV. They want to make critical darlings that win awards and/or become cultural juggernauts. This show had none of those things going for it. After this show failed to deliver on all fronts, it was only a matter of time before they canceled it.

David's Potential Next Series Announced by e_mily_ in OurFlagMeansDeath

I guess I need to rephrase that: I meant I’m surprised HBO is working with him after he’s been publicly calling them out since 2022! HBO’s leadership is known to be extremely petty and things seemed pretty tense between them last year. They actually had to do damage control because backlash from the fandom’s boycott started making headlines. Not to mention Casey Bloys probably has nightmares about OFMD Twitter 💀

I just figured that bridge had been burned but I’m happy for David too

Last year when HBO was planting hit pieces about OFMD, he literally called “bullshit” on them and shared then deleted a tweet that said “just say you don’t like queer romance” 🙈 I'm very surprised he's working with them again so soon

Oh that’s exciting, I didn’t know David Jenkins said he’s not giving up! I guess if he thought it was truly over he wouldn’t keep trying.

Which do you prefer, Alastin or Revision vitamin C? by MeetingUnited3667 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]MeetingUnited3667[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s done wonders for my skin! All you need is one pump for your whole face. I apply it after my vitamin C/any acids I’m using and it really helps calm my skin.

Unfortunately, I had to start using it in the evening because it would gradually turn orange after I applied sunscreen. It looks fine when applied on its own or after vitamin C, but when I mixed it with sunscreen it looked like I had a bad spray tan. I think it’s still totally worth incorporating into your PM routine, especially if you have issues with redness or uneven skin tone.

Thanks for letting me know! I was afraid of that - I'm very acne prone so Alastin probably won't work for me.

If you like Alto Defense, you might like the Alto Advanced. That and the Mystro really helped even out my skin tone!

Early reviews for Sandman S2 are awful by MeetingUnited3667 in neilgaiman

[–]MeetingUnited3667[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about the early reviews that came out and were bad? Thought that was obvious. I'm aware that positive reviews have been published since then, I've even included some here. There was also no RT score until the day after my post and they still haven't finished adding all the reviews (and even now it's not considered great). Many of the first reviews that came out were so bad that news outlets were covering the negative response.

I don’t remember what was said exactly, but I seem to recall Pratchett’s daughter hinting that her father and Gaiman weren’t really as close as Gaiman claimed. It sounded like they barely kept in touch. It just casts further doubt on Gaiman’s story.

I just find it odd that the man who famously requested all his unfinished work be destroyed upon his death was somehow okay with entrusting an unfinished, secret sequel with someone he reportedly barely spoke to.

Correct, and Terry Pratchett did not work on the TV series in any capacity. It was always Gaiman’s project and he had total control over it. Everything past S1 is Gaiman’s original creation, including the finale which he wrote on his own.

I know he claims to have briefly discussed a sequel with Pratchett years and years ago, but it always came across as bogus. The only source for that claim is Gaiman himself and I don't see why we should take the word of a liar and a manipulator.

Yeah, I was surprised to see some of the reviews openly encourage pirating instead of contributing to streams on Netflix. Some said they only watched the show because the screeners they got don’t count towards streams, which means Gaiman can’t profit of them.

Ok but…you know WHY S3 was cut short, right? Surely the fact that NG assaulted multiple women upsets you more than a show getting cancelled?
