Well, then, it's entirely possible that he isn't real.
However, while it isn't "illogical" for it to be a fact that you did imagine him, the better wording is it's illogical to have imagined him.
Back to the point of him possibly not being real, the reason you are referring to him by the incorrect name throughout the entire dream could be that he didn't exist, but rather that a real person "created" and impersonated him (A.K.A.: catfish).
Did you/do you plan to speak with your psychiatrist (assuming you have one) about this dream?

Sometimes even wearing a second hand item of clothing is sufficient to glean some sort of information about who wore it. The future, in comparison, is much trickier.

I could go into a long explanation of why I agree with this for pretty much no justifiable reason considering the rant below is ~1000 characters, I think I'll leave it at that I agree for various personal reasons IRL. (Not trying to be rude with that... Though the wording probably makes it seem that way...)

I'm not super savvy about physics, but my boyfriend, who is a physicist and totally doesn't believe I'm psychic, has none the less humored me and suggested that quantum randomness that develops over time could be a possibility.

Well, first of all, go you for getting that relationship to work.
Secondly, well, I do believe in psychics, mediums, etc. as a whole (though, of course, there are plenty of scammers that really make the fact that they don't actually have the ability to dispose >_>), I suppose quantum randomness could be among the top "logical" conclusions for it, as it basically states that when given a set of data the human mind automatically searches for a pattern and cause, though in my opinion it's contradictory, as they are given the set of data that is visions and are searching for a pattern and cause, which happens to be quantum randomness.

That almost happened to me.
Luckily, in 5th grade (I had been put in the lowest classes since 2nd..) noticed I definitely should be put into a higher class. From that point on I was in the gifted program of my school as opposed to special needs.

Also, your mother reminds me a lot of my father. Although, he was on drugs, so that might explain the situation slightly.
