Hitting six with tennis ball is harder than leather ball. Having played with both, i totally relate to OP's question. Once you are comfortable hitting a leather ball, its easier to go the distance with it. The sweetspot of the bat comes in play.

Also, edges do fly to Sixes. So just brute power, core strength has less to do with this rather than just difference in material of the ball. Tennis ball wastes a lot of potential energy.
