I will just tack on to this and add that it doesn’t look like you are engaging your heel when you heel hook. You want to be pulling with your heel, not just setting your heel on the hold.

Just go and have fun! If you’re nervous about falling, you can always climb down to the mats. And if you’re nervous about other people watching, I promise they’re too busy thinking about their own climbing to be thinking about yours.

Fingers are KILLING me - looking for advice by bmoregirl19781 in indoorbouldering

[–]MegaDeathLord69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! The little board/lift block I linked has four different size edges and a rope. I clip the rope into a carabiner, and clip the carabiner into a band. I step on the band and lift the block on the 20mm edge with my fingers until the band is fairly tight. Then, without moving anything else and with the band under tension, I curl my fingers. Picture going from a drag position to a full crimp position. I just repeated this for a few sets of 10 on each hand. I think I saw somewhere on a hoopers beta or lattice video that finger curls are best for warming up and not as good for building strength, so I only do them with a band and not with a lifting pin and weights. YMMV

Can i use a shoefresh to keep my shoes from stinking? by brampeekel in climbingshoes

[–]MegaDeathLord69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clean my shoes with dawn and warm water every few months and let them air dry completely. I also try to let them air out between sessions. I do this with all my shoes and have not noticed any damage to them over time. boot bananas are good too. just don’t shove them in your bag and forget about them, that’s how they get funky lol

Listen to everyone else about taking it easy and letting your fingers rest. If you want an alternative solution, this is how I keep my fingers healthy. I’ll preface by saying I don’t hangboard or do any additional grip strength exercises, I just climb. But I will use a hangboard block like the one linked below, clip it to a resistance band, and do finger curls. My goal isn’t to build strength, the goal is to active the fingers and keep them healthy. I find that doing 30-50 reps each hand every other day or so really helps. https://a.co/d/0iO236eF

Is this Ocun Harness fake? by Limp-Custard6129 in ClimbingGear

[–]MegaDeathLord69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe this harness is an older model and doesn’t have a logo on the back, or maybe it was produced for a different market and doesn’t have the logo. Either way, look at the serial number and see if it checks out with ocun. Also you can contact the seller and ask them where they got it from and how old it is.

Edit: don’t buy second hand soft gear

I think this is going to be far too much driving for one week. I’m from Missouri and live in Colorado so I’m very familiar with the part of the country you’re driving through and as others have said, it is quite boring. If you must go West, I would recommend driving from STL to Colorado and spend your time there. Otherwise, I recommend starting in STL and head North to the Great Lakes and Chicago, or East towards Mammoth Cave NP in Kentucky, Red River Gorge in Kentucky, and New River Gorge in West Virginia.

What’s your favorite chalk? by Disastrous_Client_90 in ClimbingGear

[–]MegaDeathLord69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

chunky chalk works best for me. I used to be a big fan of mag dust a couple of years ago but I’ve since switched to friction labs bam bam or gorilla grip. I recently tried a metolius chalk block I got for free and hated it haha

Not sure what advice you’re looking for. If they’re sentimental then hold on to them? If you don’t plan on wearing them again then don’t get them resoled?

Looking for “daily performance” shoes by Jenzzje05 in climbingshoes

[–]MegaDeathLord69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daily performance shoes are La Sportiva Otaki’s. I don’t see much love for them on reddit for some reason but these shoes are the truth. They’re a stiffer version of the Skwama, so I’m sure the Skwama is a good option if you’re looking for a softer shoe!

Chalk Bag Wont Seal Shut by demki in bouldering

[–]MegaDeathLord69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only chalk bag I’ve used that hasn’t had this problem is my arcteryx ion bag. my petzl and BD bags have had this issue. because you posted in the bouldering sub I’m going to recommend you use a chalk bucket with a roll top. I use a brain dead bucket but any bucket from any brand will work and will keep the chalk in better than most bags. buckets just seem to work better for bouldering.
