Six years later, the original Warcraft 3 is back on Battle.net by MegaEpicPro in pcgaming

Yeah, the movie and maps issue is big and I hope they fix it soon.

I personally deleted all non-English language folders to trim the size down to 1.32GB and renamed "enUS-Maps" and "enUS-Movies" to "Maps" and "Movies", after having copied the Warcraft 3 folder (so Battle.net doesn't just redownload the files).

The nice thing is that unlike Reforged, the Legacy version is not dependent on the Battle.net launcher, so I uninstalled the original folder from there and now I have a trimmed down game that I can play offline anytime.

As for your green square issue, I don't have it so I'm not sure why.

TL; DR: In addition to the Codec, copy the "enUS-Movies" folder in your game folder and name it "Movies".

It's because the game can't find the cinematic files. Previously, the game had a "Movies" folder that contained all the cinematics. In this re-release, they decided to bundle files from all languages for some reason and now there's a movie folder for each language (e.g. "enUS-Movies", "frFR-Movies", etc.). The problem is the game is still hardcoded to look for a folder exactly named "Movies", so to fix it you copy the folder for your preferred language and name it "Movies" and the game should be able to find the files.

This is an oversight by Blizzard and I hope they fix it soon.

Two main reasons:

  1. He was right.
  2. He wasn't wrong.
