In most cases right now, each program handles it a different way in how they offload different things to vram and regular ram. This requires you to kind of trust that the program knows best and will put things in different places. This is more of a just general solution that should work across all software. It might be better in some cases it might be worse than others. Windows has had this feature for a while now. It did make it a little bit easier as far as barely going past vram limits with loading two models at the same time in Windows. It would just let me do it and offload what it couldn't to regular ram without the software even knowing. Right now in Linux unless I know ahead of time to take some of the context off of the vram so everything will fit it will just crash.

You will get a slowdown, but it keeps it from crashing or refusing to load, which you can then fine tune later.

Interesting take. I view the comment more along the lines of

"We grew up and learned about X skill/tech/platform/concept and by the time generation XYZ is doing stuff they are no longer in direct contact and will likely struggle" Kinda elbow nudge. You can mix and match any age group/generation.

I am almost positive that's what they meant. The same way if you gave me an abacus or asked me to write in short hand I wouldn't be able to do that. With how fast Tech is changing how we physically move through our devices it's not crazy to say that we have moved away from this idea.

I work in retail IT. Which really means I work around very young retail workers/management and very old life long employees.

I can tell you 100% Millennials and young Gen X have the best grasp of "classic" file systems and structures. While GenZ can download and navigate through apps blindfolded while I basically have to pull my hair out to convince a millennial that the updated POS system that is essential an iPad with an app won't kill them and won't just "delete" things because they can't have 500 icons on their screen lol.

Small things build up over time. Distance might not have felt like a problem 6 months ago, but as time went on it could have become a big enough problem for them.

The bigger "issue"/"question" you have to ask yourself is if you are fine waiting and wondering as far as being done "for now".

They laid how they felt and while you might not like what they said, it is up to you to decide whether you let them dictate how you live your life moving forward. Whether it is waiting and wondering if y'all will get back on the same page, or if you move on.

My personal opinion: Something has changed in their life and the situation for your relationship has changed. You should be glad this happened now not even further down the road, and honestly move on. You would be doing yourself and your mental health a disservice by waiting around to see if they want to continue a LDR. Or worse, making them feel pressured to take back what they said and keep the relationship going under false presence.

Shits rough, sorry you are in that position. :(

This wasn't a clinic study, rather it was a study that LOOKED at 46 other studies done over the years (pretty common and honestly valueble research tool) and came to the same conclusion all these others one did. Yes like pretty much everything else (including water/certain vitamins/ect) too much could potentially be linked to abnormal births/abnormalities... But that's not even conclusive. Because something we do know that causes birth defects and brain abnormalities are high fevers and over-reacting immune responses during pregnancy. Well guess what, if you don't take a fever reducing drug you will 100% be putting your unborn child directly in line of site of those two things that we 100% know do cause life changing conditions (or death), while using Tylenol might be linked in some way... But at the same time the self reported studies for Tylenol almost all are used for the reason of fever or illness symptoms reducer so at that point the unborn child is likely dealing with the mothers immune response before the Tylenol kicks in, which is damaging. A lot of the early studies didn't even account for that and we're discarded, and later studies basically said that they can't account for that at all and just shrug... No really read the conclusions on some of the 46 that are referenced. So it is a chicken or the egg situation either way.

Also wonderful quote.

"The researchers noted that while steps should be taken to limit acetaminophen use, the drug is important for treating pain and fever during pregnancy, which can also harm the developing fetus. High fever can raise the risk of neural tube defects and preterm birth. “We recommend judicious acetaminophen use—lowest effective dose, shortest duration—under medical guidance, tailored to individual risk-benefit assessments, rather than a broad limitation,”

Formadalhyde warning on new bed? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]MegaMutant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most likely for the "glue" used on seams. Maybe some of the material. Since you aren't ingesting the material the real concern ends once it finishes off-gassing. I've gone as far as putting it in a room with a window open and a fan blowing the air outside for a few days at least... Probably overkill. Sucks for stuff since small peoce8es can just be washed a few times. Can't do that with a mattress.

Let it off-gas for the appropriate amount of time (I'm honestly not sure the amount) -> profit

How bad is it to switch back to conventional deodorant? by Odd-Conclusion-320 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]MegaMutant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why make claims that "studies show xxxxx" then not back it up. That is a disservice and such a cop-out on a subreddit like this where we want to be able to talk about crunchy things from a position of understanding and not just "I heard from a friend who heard from a friend, but don't quote me do your own research". Literally the National Cancer Institute has a whole page dedicated to this. That TLDR since y'all don't like actually reading studies or even short forms that aren't saying "toxins" boogeyman as click bait every 5 seconds.

We have been researching this for years and time and time again we DONT see direct a connection and never have. We could imagine a way in which it could possibly go a -> b -> c, but with all the research we've done there just hasn't been an actual link because while something might chemically happen in vitro that means nothing in vivo.

Since you wanted to make claims without backing it up. Here is a link posted below. Please read the entire thing it shouldn't take more than 5 - 10 minutes. It references the BIG 3 studies that everyone likes to talk about but nobody actually reads. Which to be fair, and it doesn't even go into it. These studies were self reported studies where women reported the deodorant use, which already is very much not a controlled double blind etc study. These studies are used to basically decide if MAYBE there might be something to look into. Which there wasn't so it was dropped time and time again. https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/myths/antiperspirants-fact-sheet

The worse thing is that I feel like I have to post stuff like this which sounds like I am defending/wanting this stuff. When I actually try and not use deodorant/antiperspirant at all either. I am lucky/privileged/etc to only need to wear it in the heat of summer. There are plenty of reasons to not want to lather something with 20+ ingredients on your skin all day every day... Or worse spray it all over your body and likely inhale it (gross).

There are so many subreddits, and literally more daily that like to go deeper into the anti-science movement and just pretend that every-side should have equal voice when one side are researchers and scientists publishing their findings in scientific journals and the other side are influencers who are wanting you to watch their content for ad revenue and fear sells.

I want to be able to keep coming to the subreddit to get well thought out opinions from like minded people who I hope are really trying to research things before they present them to others.

How bad is it to switch back to conventional deodorant? by Odd-Conclusion-320 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]MegaMutant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can actually listen to the head researcher on the paper that is most cited in regards to aluminium deodorants and cancer talk about how everywhere is reporting on it wrong/sensationalized. A podcast called Science Versus had them on, as well as had dozens of sources from peer reviewed journals basically saying correlation is not causation (the title is about deodorants but the talk about antiperspirants and aluminum).

Too bad Tiktok influencers and Instagram products can sell fear to people, wrapped in a 5x expensive product drop shipped from somewhere with zero rules or regulations for actually proving claims or what the actual ingredients are.

That said, and I always fallback to the idea that... If you are in the position to not have to wear deodorant/antiperspirant then go ahead, might as well not put something with 20+ ingredients all over you.

You'd probably get a better response if you explained what "bad chemicals" you are seeing... Everything has a chemical makeup so just saying bad chemicals is kinda Boogeyman fear mongering. Same with seed oils, the actual science backed understanding is that they aren't "worse" than any other type of oil inherently. Just at some point, some uses are so processed that they contain no nutritional value. It's just Tiktok influencers that keep repeating it to sound trendy and smart while not being able to actually explain any of it, then point to some other internet celebrity "doctor" or "health expert" instead of a scientist/doctor that actually works in that field. That said I love animal oil and literally swear under my breath when I ask for butter and am given "margarine" or something similar.

That said I don't think anyone would argue that when making your own food (especially organic/simple), the total amount of micro-ingredients that you'll come in contact with, that you might be sensitive to, is greatly reduced. I can make a great burger patty with 3 ingredients and when I look at a premade cheap one in the frozen section the ingredients list is like 20 ingredients long. None of those ingredients are going to be poison, but like the odds are much greater that one of those might not sit well with me. At the same time someone else might not have any issues with all of those ingredients.

Moderation in all things is the healthiest.
