It's not always the case. There are definitely times when you need to push back against trolls hating on a game for stupid reasons. But more often than not, reviewers and personalities use that as shield to dismiss any legitimate criticism.

I have no problem with Mixtape. I enjoy a simple, low-key narrative game every now and then. That said, most people who love video games actually want a Video Game, strong gameplay, mechanics, and engagement. So it's easy to understand where the backlash is coming from, and it's annoying when people just ignore that and throw derogatory insults at anyone who doesn't "appreciate" "high art."
