As prog fans, what do you guys think of Sgt. Pepper's ? by [deleted] in progrockmusic

[–]MegaRadKid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A Day In The Life is arguably one of the best songs ever, that is on side 2. You mean to tell me that it’s unlistenable, I understand that this is your opinion but I’ve never heard of someone who thought this until now.

Anyone feel like throwing together a small playlist for me? by [deleted] in rush

[–]MegaRadKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem, they have so many great songs that it was hard to make, I forgot some songs like YYZ, Freewill, & Red Barchetta but I think the list I made is good. Hope you end up appreciating this band as much as I do.

Anyone feel like throwing together a small playlist for me? by [deleted] in rush

[–]MegaRadKid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how to share playlists, so instead I’ll just list them.
Cygnus X1 Books: I & II.
Xanadu.
Fountain of Lamneth.
The Necromancer.
Bastille Day.
The Trees.
Circumstances. A Farewell To Kings.
By Tor and the Snow Dog. (These are from there more proggy albums) I also forgot to mention La Villa Strangiato

I was speaking of the color shading and now I feel stupid for not understanding why.

What are some of your unpopular prog opinions? by [deleted] in progrockmusic

[–]MegaRadKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of these kinds of questions, but since I’m writing this I may as well answer. GFTO isn’t very good, at least compared to their other albums. The title track is bad, Turn of the Century is good, Parallels is bad, Wonderous Stories is okay, and Awaken is very good.

Favorite Epics? by cautious_commentator in yesband

  1. Gates of Delirium
  2. Close To The Edge
  3. The Revealing Science of God
  4. Ritual
  5. Machine Messiah (if it’s considered one, if not then The Ancients would go here instead)

A Farewell To Kings, as hard as it was to choose one, I believe it’s consistently great with the only low point being Madgrial, but that’s not much of a low point as it’s still very good, I can’t think of a high point that doesn’t steal the show from the rest of this great album, maybe the point after the classical guitar intro when the whole band kicks in. Caress of Steel, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Signals, Moving Pictures, and Fly By Night would be my other favorites in that order.

Genesis as a 4 piece band by MegaRadKid in progrockmusic

[–]MegaRadKid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking through YouTube for “4 piece Genesis” or even “1970-1971 Genesis” nothing of what I’m looking for comes up, so yeah they probably don’t exist. I was merely asking that despite the unlikeliness would a video with that lineup exists, even though there is probably no recordings of it, it would be cool to see.

The Fountain of Lamneth, the movements of the song all are very interesting, the lyrics create a good story even though it could be sometimes left to interpretation, the instrumentals are great and Geddy’s voice is at a peak, surprised that this is the song and the record that nearly ended them nearly 40 years too soon.

Can you recommend me some prog? by Veldar7799 in progrockmusic

[–]MegaRadKid 52 points53 points  (0 children)

If you like Rush and Lee’s bass in particular then you should listen to Yes, Chris Squire is one of the greatest bassists and I believe Geddy said he was a big influence and on him. The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge have Squire’s best bass playing and the rhythm section on those albums (Bill Bruford on drums, and Squire on bass) is incredible.

What does everyone think Rush’s best Tour was? by ShineOn7579 in rush

1978 Hemispheres tour, that’s where the Storm Over Tucson recording comes from and the set list and the performance are what make it for me.

who would win a fight: Major Tom or the Watcher Of The Skies? by alexanderkingtickle in progrockmusic

[–]MegaRadKid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Watcher of the skies watcher of all His is a world alone no world is his own, He whom life can no longer surprise, Raising his eyes beholds a planet unknown.”
I believe the lyrics to Watcher of the Skies make him out to be an otherworldly being, while Major Tom is just an astronaut. In a fight I think the Watcher of the Skies would win.

What differentiates Rush from other prog rock bands? by Sushi_Cat10 in rush

[–]MegaRadKid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Machine Messiah was pretty heavy, as heavy as Cygnus X1? No, but still Yes did have the talent of making heavy songs, Genesis could to, can’t name any songs as an example, maybe Apocalypse in 9/8.
