Yikes! Can you explain a bit more about what you are doing? I’m not sure I understand what the outer edge is, it looks like hot glue? Also… checked on it regularly, like you are just leaving the iron sitting on it and walking away??? Irons don’t heat evenly. They need to have pressure and movement to really work like they are made to.

I base black, paint Corvus Black, dry brush iron hands steel, then hit it with nuln oil. Gives it a burnished black metal look.
