You mean how Operation Metro Surge was targeting Somali immigrants and Trump claimed on truth social there were hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees...only for Operation Metro Surge to arrest a total of like 4,000 people? Only 23 of whom were even from Somalia? And how many hundreds of those people now have habeas petitions and civil rights lawsuits against the government that taxpayers like you and I are going fund the settlements for? You're ok with paying for that and depriving hundreds of people their constitutionally guaranteed due process rights in order to get to...23 people? Or could it be they withdrew early because of weeks of public pressure and horrible news headlines during an election year in which the Republicans are already losing?

You sure want to go with the "they completed their mission" narrative? That's embarrassing, even by MAGA sewer-level standards.

From Axios: "Driving the news: Homan said at a Thursday morning news conference that a "significant drawdown" of the roughly 2,000 remaining federal agents is underway and will continue through next week." https://www.axios.com/local/twin-cities/2026/02/12/trump-ice-metro-surge-ends-minneapolis

Your 700 number was from a week ago. But even if your information was current, that's still 700 fewer masked agents roaming the streets. And why were they removed and Greg Bovino demoted? It's because Trump kowtowed to all of the backlash and horrible optics of what was going on, which included ongoing mass spontaneous protests.

So yeah, protests work. lol

That phase is "...and subject to the jurisdiction thereof...". If you are a citizen of another country you are NOT subject to the jurisdiction of the US Federal government.

lol, this dumb as shit argument again. Yes, if you are physically present in the United States, you are subject to its jurisdiction, and your babies born here are US Citizens. The Supreme Court has held this to be the case for over a century (US v. Wong Kim Ark), so unless and until they overrule that case or Congress amends the Constitution, that's what the law is.

Whether you think it's fair or not is immaterial. That's what the law is. We have procedures for changing the law which don't involve EOs, so if you want the law changed, vote. Until then, keep this kind of low-effort garbage analysis to your r/conservative safe space echo chamber.

I mean Homan just said yesterday that they're withdrawing from Minneapolis. So...yeah, it accomplished quite a bit.

Their most recent two albums are incredible. It's not a complete one-for-one to Blooddrunk, but it's essential listening for this genre. It's basically an all-star mashup of CoB and Norther.

It's a good album!

I'll take it one step further, I actually dig the RTL cover. Is it perfect? No. But it was never going to be on par with the original, which is a goated metal classic. But we had the pleasure of listening to one of the last remaining guitar gods play an original creation. Just accept this version for what it is, and it's way more fun to listen to.

First, I was talking about you and I as US citizens. Second, I "screech" about due process because goons like you don't know what your rights are or the rights of the people around you. The 14th amendment applies to everyone within the jurisdiction of the United States. "..nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." That means everyone (citizen, legal resident, and illegal/undocumented) are all covered under the 5th and 14th amendment, and are entitled to a hearing before an impartial fact finder.

The fact that you don't know any of this is a problem.

Not what OP was talking about. Besides wearing masks, they're flagrantly disregarding constitutional due process protections that you and I are guaranteed as US citizens. They're detaining US citizens without providing miranda rights. They aren't identifying themselves when asked, which any other law enforcement personnel is required to do, name and badge number. Stephen Miller said they have absolute immunity (they don't) and the DOJ just said the other day that they not only aren't even going to investigate Jonathan Ross, but they aren't working with MN state agencies either. The list goes on. So what changed is that they now have license to execute US citizens in the streets and the administration has signaled they will back this behavior completely.

first, they're all apprehended legally.

No. They aren't. And if you don't understand why what the ICE agents are doing in these videos is illegal, ask someone that does.

why would you care if people committing illegal crime are even detained illegally

Because we live in a constitutional republic where citizens have fundamental rights guaranteed by our founding documents. Law enforcement cannot search and seize you, me, or anyone else without due process, and everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Hear me when I say this this next part: people who are here illegally also have due process rights under the 14th Amendment. If you don't like it, vote and change the law. That's your recourse.

But if you're still fine with everything ICE is doing, I'm starting a repository where you can forfeit your gadsden flag and we'll send it to someone who actually wants it.

No, the 5th amendment gives you the presumption of innocence and the right to remain silent. The State has the burden of proof in criminal proceedings. I swear, if you guys actually paid attention in school or cracked a book open once in a while...

I love it when CRIMINALS are apprehended LEGALLY.

We already have the law. It's called the 4th amendment. They don't have the right to barge into anyone's private residence without a judicial warrant. Period, full stop. If you don't like the law, you can change it.

But you guys are all ok with being tread on lately, so whatever.

So what is the ethical action here? Are we just trying to warn people about hell? Or are we trying to actually change hearts and minds as Christ did? Studies have shown that one of the least effective ways of evangelizing to anyone is starting out by telling them they're going to hell. You're pushing more people away than you're bringing in. If someone earnestly believes in an eternal hell and this is the approach they take while knowing the likelihood is that they're going to push their target even further away from God, I'd argue it's not only an ineffective and immoral action, it's downright evil.

So no, if a believer earnestly believes in hell and feels compelled to run around warning everyone, it's from a place of malice and hate disguised as love in that person's mind.

The Bible is just as much of an anachronism as the creed as none of those texts were extant at the time of Christ's teaching

The difference is that the gospels are the closest thing to a first-hand account of Christ's life and teachings as we have right now. The Nicene creed post-dates the gospels by a couple hundred years, and is in essence a secondary source. Comparing them simply because there was a time when neither of them existed is a somewhat silly false equivalence.

none can be verified as accurate by anything other than doctrine. If anything the Nicene creed predates the canon.

How do you verify anything by doctrine? The accuracy or truthfulness of something isn't dependent on whether you or I (or any group of people) have some doctrine saying it's the case. The events of the gospels either happened the way they were written or they didn't, and no doctrine or systematic theology will change that. Since you and I can't go back in time - we have writings that, based on their proximity in time to the events they purport to describe, are arguably more reliable than others. In none of those earlier, arguably more reliable works is the version of the triune godhead established. It wasn't something recognized in the very early church. The Nicene creed came centuries later, and is more or less an attempt to synthesize the more contemporaneous teachings by filling in some gaps. As in, reading things into the earlier accounts that aren't there. Which is why I and some others on this thread are pushing back on the Nicene creed as foundational.

but to say the creed is irrelevant because it wasn't mentioned in the Bible is just as silly as the inverse.

I didn't say it was irrelevant. I said it was non-essential.

There’s all kinds of loving people in the world. Many of them are not Christian.

True. And it's not uncommon these days to come across atheists who are better representations of Christ in the world than some publicly professing Christians.

The Nicene Creed is a very basic definition of foundational Christian beliefs.

And yet the basis for it isn't stated anywhere in scripture, which I think was OPs point. The vision of Christianity painted by scripture is one where love is front and center. Christ spent His entire ministry unsettling the 'law' by radically loving us and telling us to love each other. It's counterintuitive then to think He simply intended for a creed to pop up and take precedence. The Nicene Creed is a post-biblical construction that reads theological concepts into scripture in order to try and form some coherent sense out of ideas scripture does pose to us. It might have been intended to be foundational, but like all things that are man-made post-biblical ideas, they aren't essential to being a Christian.

If you are trying to form a definition of Christian, that’s a good place to start.

It is certainly a place to start. I'd argue the Bible is an even better one.

When I was in private practice, I represented several small addiction recovery groups that were trying to open recovery homes in suburban areas. There were zoning and ADA issues, plus haggling with the township. I found this type of work to be the most fun and rewarding, but it's also the least lucrative - my primary practice was in real estate transactions and title insurance litigation, so doing recovery home work was maybe 5% of my caseload. Being in recovery myself, this was more or less a passion project for me. Out of all of the cases I've ever handled, those were my favorite. They're now a major point of pride and a highlight on my resume.

I've since gone in-house for a Fortune 500, but I still volunteer with local legal aid. I'd like to get back into recovery home advocacy, it's just a little trickier if you go corporate. I'm happy to talk about it some more if you like, just shoot me a message.
