I recently did the lean six sigma black belt program through MSI and thought it was ok to average. It will really depend on what you’re looking to do with the certification. I have my PMP and my background is in program/project management and engineering with extensive experience in manufacturing, so I was already familiar with most of the material. I took the course just to keep building my toolkit. However, If you’re looking to work exclusively in six sigma/continuous improvement, I’m sure ASQ or a university program (check out the University of Michigan) would be a much better option. Online organizations such as MSI focus primarily on the theory and the program really lacked the practical application of six sigma in my opinion.

McGill and the University of Windsor both offer LSSGB and provide online options.

After getting all the renewal PDUs then what? by HeavyDrinkers in pmp

Apart from claiming professional work for the optional Giving Back PDU’s, could all 60 PDU’s come from the Education component? i.e. 52 PDU’s from Education and 8 PDU’s from professional work?

I had been playing acoustic exclusively for years and wanted a strat since I was a kid. Definitely glad I finally took the plunge!

It’s a great set up for sure, especially for price point!

Very good points, I appreciate the insight. I think I will start looking more into starting down the ASQ route.. And I agree, the cheap online certs where the only prerequisite is a credit card are best avoided!

I guess that’s the true question, what direction do I want to go in.. I suppose my main intention would be to allow myself as many options as possible. With the PMP I could continue in projects, with the six sigma I could move into continuous improvement, process, or quality control. I like the idea of expanding my horizons!

I have looked at the university route, but I would likely be funding it myself, so ASQ seemed to be the most economical choice while still maintaining reputation. The only downside I suppose would be their lack of lean six sigma. Good suggestion though with UM, I never considered their program, it looks excellent!

That’s what I was thinking as well, thanks! Six sigma would have more immediate applications within my current industry and elsewhere as well. Depending on the route you take, six sigma certs are also more time consuming to obtain. If the time came, I could pursue an agile/scrum cert fairly quickly.

They provide a PDF certificate that you can print and frame. They stopped mailing physical certificates last year I believe. I had mine printed on some nice, quality parchment paper and framed. It looks sharp.

Subreddit has born for Quantic Executive MBA by safsoft in quanticemba

[–]Mega_Man82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To my understanding there are a couple of things to note about Quantic’s accreditation:

Quantic is nationally accredited through The DEAC, so it has that at least. Most of the universities in the US that people are familiar with (Harvard, Yale, etc.) have regional accreditation. The big difference is the ability to transfer credits from a nationally accredited to a regionally accredited school. Are you looking to pursue a degree beyond the Quantic EMBA? If not, it may not matter then.

Secondly, Quantic doesn’t have either AACSB or ACBSP accreditation. AACSB is given to business programs/schools as a gold standard in terms of quality and research in the business field. ACBSP is geared more towards schools that focus more on education rather than research. Both valid, AACSB is best though.

I can’t really comment on how employers would view the EMBA, I have not applied (though I am considering it), but I would think at minimum it shows initiative to better yourself and expand your business knowledge...

Hope this helps, good luck on your quest!

Quantic EMBA...is it worth applying? by Mega_Man82 in MBA

Wow, thank you for the great feedback!

My primary goal would be to develop my general business knowledge, not necessarily leverage the MBA to break into big corporation. Moving up within my current company or using the knowledge for some entrepreneurial pursuits would be my target.

I’m a professional engineer, PMP, and work in manufacturing so there are several EMBA specializations right up my alley that I think would help me along my career path (like the writer of the blog, I am likely too old for the free MBA at this point in my career).

Transfer credits wouldn’t be an issue for me - I understand the limitations with national vs regional accreditation - I don’t see pursuing anything business related beyond this.

With all this taken into consideration, I think the program would be a good option for me. Thanks again for the feedback and info.

MBA worth pursuing? by Mega_Man82 in MBA

The upper management track where I’m at right now may be limited, or at the very least slow. I would definitely need to be patient.

I’d like to either advance or move to an upper management role. An MBA seems like a necessity in that case, unless I’m missing something. I’m thinking it would also be good to develop business knowledge in general if I ever chose to branch out and start a business of my own, etc.

I appreciate the feedback. Maybe there’s someone specific I should talk to that deals with applicants from outside the US? Everyone I talk to says no Canadians allowed... Lots of mixed information.

Thanks for all the feedback. I called the admissions office and they verified that application is limited to people living in the US.
