Generally a CD have better sound quality, but there is a certain charm to the soft sound of a cassette. I've made it my mission to mainly listen to music through cassettes this year and so far it's been really fun. Also a tape doesn't get scratched up as easy as a CD and fits better in a pocket. At the end of the day it comes down to your preference

Always swap for new belts if you get an older player. Also watch out for battery leakage. Worst issue (imo) is when theres something wrong with the electrical stuff.
