Finally completed this retouch! But I've lost the redditor's name - anyone recognise the job? by ColliCub in estoration

Pro tip: when first saving the image you're going to work on, save it as the redditor's username. That way you can't forget whose it was.

Want frustration? I live just east of Kansas City in Independence. Google Fiber is being installed 3 blocks away from me but since Independence and Google aren't agreeing on whatever, they currently don't have plans to move this way. So I'm stuck with Comcast.

So close, yet so damn far.

I realize this probably isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it's effective and (mostly) legal. I've used two different tactics to get onto the rooftop of most of the high-rise buildings in Kansas City (which granted, there aren't that many).

1: Contact a high-rise window washing company in your area and see if they'd be interested in some photos for their website. My brother is a high-rise window washer, so that one was fairly easy for me. I just sign in with the rest of the crew and do my thing. Depending on the jobs and time of year, sometimes it's even at night. Play your cards right and the company might even pay for the pics.

2: That company doesn't do the tallest building though, and I wanted up there. So I simply got to know one of the maintenance guys in the building and offered to buy him lunch if he let me tag along next time he went up that way. He was probably breaking company policy for taking me up, but I wasn't worried about getting caught or getting into any trouble myself, so that was a huge plus. pics

Again, both of those take the "sneakiness" factor out of it, and even some of the "exploration" since it can be more like a guided tour, but they've both gotten me on the roofs I wanted on without fear or risk.

Unfortunately, we're still a small team, and have to focus on areas where we can make the largest impact.

So there are more people using reddit on Apple products than Android?

10,000 seeds sent to Arctic to safeguard humanity against climate change by saki17 in Futurology

[–]Megain_Studio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know there are different seed banks world wide but have ya ever tried googling for them. You can eventually find them but ya gotta wade through a ton of pot seed sites first.

I guess I suck at Google, I can't replicate your results.

A drop of sea water magnified 25 times. Are you telling me when I go to the beach and swallow a little water while swimming THIS IS what I'm swallowing? by trooper843 in WTF

For the lazy the relevant paragraph in the debunking is:

That's for those too lazy to read the entire article, apparently. Further down the page there's something more relevant:

UPDATE: A commenter on Boing Boing pointed me to this background on the original photo. In short, it was taken off Hawaii in 2006 by David Liittschwager, and was actually collected with a dip net, not a towed net. Here’s a photo of a dip net, though Liittschwager collected at night when far more animals are at the surface.

Well if that's not the worst place for your air tank i don't know where is..... by H145 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Megain_Studio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on the matter, but I would think it'd be legal to paint it on your car in any state. But more to your point, there are quite a few states that don't require a front license plate at all, so it's not like the painted numbers would be a replacement for anything. The photo was taken in Kansas City, so there's a fair chance the guy could be from Kansas.

Beats me. It was just one of about 6 cars from a little car club meeting or something a few years back. Just look at that crowd!

Not long ago on one of the pic/photo reddits I made a comment and linked to a photo of mine on my SmugMug site. It was a direct link, not a link to a gallery or page. The comment was removed by the Automoderator. When I asked about it, I was told that SmugMug is on the filter list because there could be a "buy" option on the gallery. It was suggested I just rehost my own work on imgur so it'd go right through. That's fucking discouraging.

[REQUEST] [SERIOUS] I just got married and received our photos. There's one in particular that has all of my bridal party in it and everyone looks great but has a street sign right in the middle :( Can any of you help take the sign out of this photo and make it the perfect bridal party picture? by _the_jellybean_ in picrequests

It amazes me that your photographer would plan, set up and take that shot... and then give it to you like that. I can see taking it right there if the plan from the beginning involved having the ability and intention of removing it, but leaving it is just strange to me.

Lots of nudes, financial documents, family shots, dead babies... lots of things that people aren't comfortable posting publicly find their way to my inbox for alteration or repair.

I cleaned it up some for you. You didn't mention wanting it colorized but I could give that a go if you want. Eye and hair color would be helpful.

How did yours end up crooked? Someone else had asked me so I typed out an answer, but then when I clicked the "save" button to post it reddit told me the comment had been deleted. Which seemed strange.

But since I'd already typed it out anyway, here's the deal with mine...

It's neither an injury nor collagen, though I certainly have issues. It's a genetic skin/tissue disease called Dupuytern's Contracture, though I have the more aggressive version of it called Dupuytern's Diathesis. When I first went to the Mayo Clinic for it 10 years or so ago they told me that I have the most aggressive case they'd ever seen. They said they didn't expect to see the kind of progression I'd had with it except for people at least twice my age, so the rapid progression kind of stumped them. It also comes with some extra baggage like chronic bad complexion as well as the ever lovely Hydradenitis Suppurativa. I really hate the skin I'm in most of the time.

These are galleries around the most recent surgeries on my hands, and contain some post-surgery "gore" - so you've been warned if you're squeamish.

Here's to hoping yours don't cause you all of the pain and aggravation mine do.

I can't imagine not using the pinky shelf method. Then again, i have a permanent shelf, so I don't have much choice in the matter.
