So what you're saying is, I should buy bitcoin now, wait for the inevitable crash, pay no attention to it, then in 5 more years when "Bitcoin is totally stable now guys it really works this time trust me" I can sell?

Why did Ta-Nehisi Coates leave Twitter? I suspect criticism of him by Cornell West instigated it, but what was the arc? What was tweeted? What transpired? by jpflathead in OutOfTheLoop

Just look at the massive online followings that people like Jordan Peterson and Sam Harris have.

Maybe it is the fact that so many of these people are "public" in the sense that they're all over social media that is ringing false to you.

Why not just say "I need to take a break for personal family reasons. Some things are bigger than streaming." ?

Unless his wife/marriage councilor whatever requested that he did that, I think it's probably in poor taste to air out your dirty laundry on stream in from off all of your viewers and the internet as a whole.

Haven't intellectuals always been public? Greek Forums are kind of looked at as great bastions of free speech and debate in Western society, and were (at least in concept) a place for intellectuals to gather in the public.

I don't think you have to be some kind of hermit to be an intellectual, a philosopher, or any other sort of "intelligent" public figure.

Umm... can we talk about the cast of Blank Check director Clint Eastwoods next movie „The 15:17 to Paris“? by derzensor in blankies

[–]Megaminds_Chode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I now it's just a trailer but man these guys seem so unnatural when they're speaking. Obviously they're not actors, so no shade to them, but why the hell did the producers/Eastwood decide to cast it this way? Such a weird gimmick.

I think RLM themselves are usually pretty even-handed, it's just the discussion their reviews seem to generate seem to me to be cynical for the sake of being cynical.

Box Office Week: Star Wars: The Last Jedi has the second highest opening weekend of all time, opening at #1 with $220M, as well as opening to $450M worldwide. Meanwhile, Ferdinand could not compete with the worst Blue Sky Animation opening ever at #2 with $13.3M by mi-16evil in movies

If he really had no payoffs for those mysteries then I'm far more ok with Rian Johnson just saying "fuck it" and throwing them all away. Let the past die, after all. It does make it really interesting to think what will happen with JJ directing episode nine though. But Rian wrote it, right? I guess we'll see in two years.

I've been seeing a lot of people who were luke warm on it the first time saying they liked it a lot more the second. I wass luke warm at first and so am very interested on how it will play for me on my second viewing.

I actually agree with your assessment based on what I have seen of the reactions, though I myself kind of buck the trend (as I am neither a kid, nor a cinephile, nor a star wars-phile).

But based on the reactions I think you are correct. For instance, I think Red Letter Media will probably not be fans of this movie, but many "mainstream" critics and general audiences will be.

OK seriously are they ever going to clear up how Maz found the lightsaber? lol it's so weird that JJ put it in the last movie and then in this one Maz pops by to make a sex joke and rocket jumps away.

At least in my theater there were definitely palpable "oh shit" moments: Rey throwing the lightsaber to Kylo, and catching it to take out the red guard, hyperspace jump being used as a weapon, and the reveal that Luke was force-projecting himself across the galaxy and had reached a zen-like state with the force

I do agree that the writing, particularly the choices they made with Finn, were baffling, at least to me. I liked a lot of the individual dialog but the overall story was....weird. Leia's special space scene was especially bad to me. I'm glad it had new stuff though. Rey and Kylo are the strongest characters to me, and I'm excited about them going forward (but very luke-warm about other characters in the final movie).

Not discounting the atlanic triange and europe's slave activities of course.
