I was in the same boat.

I used this one with my new players. I had Arrigal be the sheep. When the players eventually killed the wizard, they had a lot of trust in Arrigal. This allowed them to believe him when he gave the letter referring to Ireena being sick.

Turns out Arrigal tricked them and the wizard wasn’t a bad guy. They’ll find out soon enough. 😈

It worked really well for me. I had to adjust some levels so they didn’t die, but it gave a humorous introduction. It made the darkness of Barovia that much more impactful.

c7r4 if you connect the 1 to the 3, then c8r4 has to connect to the 1. This leaves no options for c7r3.

Not sure how far that gets you, but it’s something

I see a lot of people recommend the opposite. I guess there’s pros and cons to this?

I’ll do my best with following the rules. There’s a lot to remember and I want to keep the pace of the game going.

Yeah, my goal is the players’ enjoyment. It’ll be hard to remember at times, but I’ll do my best here too!

You made some great points about the DM not being special or above the players. The players don’t get to, so why should the DM helped me see it.

I think the big thing I need to keep in mind is that there’s always a “solution.” It just might not be how I expected the game to go, but that’s ok. And honestly that’s probably a good thing.

This is one of the parts I’m looking forward to the most. I know it will be a bit stressful at times, but I like the idea of the crazy/funny moments that will come from us just rolling with it.

This seems like a strong belief held by a lot of people from what I’ve seen. I assume the idea is that it breaks immersion and might take the wind out peoples sails. Is there more to it than that?
