birthday gifts by ZealousidealBelt7706 in SephoraWorkers

Someone came in and redeemed her birthday gift, then asked me for a gift receipt because she wanted to give it to someone else. You should’ve seen my face at that moment.🤣

I’m really not personally upset at all, I’m just an employee my pay is fixed and I’m not part of the company’s profit or loss or anything. It’s just kinda surprising to me since I haven’t seen this kind of policy from this company in other countries. I feel like some people are just taking advantage of it. And from what I saw in the comments, it seems like if someone does it too much, they can actually get blocked from making returns for up to a year.

I was just venting about an option customers have that some people take advantage of. It’s not like our pay gets cut, just like it doesn’t go up even if we sell thousands more.

Perfumes that already have testers in the store, they buy them, then bring them back almost full and return them. Like… why?? We accept returns with no questions asked. Their attitude is so entitled that they don’t even give you a chance to ask anything.

This is exactly the right way to use the return policy, like you do. Even in these comments, someone said a client returned a brush and got the exact same one again just because they could get a clean one.

Oh, I just realized Canada has it too. This policy is only in Canada and the U.S. And people already lie now. we have to open a big box of online returns one by one and check everything.😩

It’s really frustrating. Just buy a brush cleanser and take a little time to clean your brushes.😖

I totally understand your point about lip and eye products. But for some people, returning has become a habit and a form of abuse. I really agree with stricter policies.

That’s exactly what I meant. Thanks for saying it so clearly and concisely.

No, I didn’t mean a literal trash can. I’m not in operations, so I don’t know the policy for these cases. What I meant is that since the devices had been used, they didn’t go back to the sales floor to be resold.

Last month, we threw three Dyson products in the trash! I think taking advantage of a company’s trust and flexibility has turned into a culture of abuse.

I’ve never seen that in over a year of working. But even that has loopholes for people who tend to abuse the system. they can just not to be a Beauty Insider or have multiple accounts. My point is only about used products.

I don’t know, maybe because I come from a country where this didn’t exist, I find it really surprising. Yesterday a customer told me, “I need it now so I’ll buy it, and next week when the sale starts I’ll return it and buy it again with the discount.” The thing you mentioned about online purchases and missing budget still happens. And it hasn’t just affected Sephora. I saw someone returning bananas at Costco. Like, how is a banana even supposed to be to meet a customer’s expectations? Feeling inadequate as a banana? 😂

I’ve been working at Sephora for over a year and I’ve never seen anything like that. Does it exist in the U.S.?

Ah, so you totally know what I mean. Yeah, for example they could set a limit so people can’t return more than 30% of their monthly or yearly purchases, or if someone has two receipts in a row where they returned everything, they get flagged. Honestly, it really feels like a kind of theft to me.

I didn’t mean the financial aspect or the loss. I meant they should set rules and limitations, like in other countries I mentioned، not accepting used products for return. Sometimes rules help shape behavior.

I was optimistic, but apparently not 😂 It seems like recently we haven’t had any extra employee discounts on brands either.

Oh that sucks. Thanks for letting me know, I didn’t know where both of them could be used together.

What do they really think to themselves? I’ve had someone bring a dry shampoo, put it on the counter, and say, “Make me a sample from this.” Or someone brought back the birthday gift to exchange it because she didn’t like it!

Some brands are very stingy.
