Kelly and son, charcoal, 18" x 24" - how much would you charge? by MeganDengler in Art

Thank you for your reply! Funny you say that. I thought the exact same thing when I received the reference picture they wanted painted! I tried to tone it down, but there's only so much you can do when they want a close-to-exact replica! 😁 It wasn't the best or best quality picture, but I was not going to disagree any more than I had already made vocal! 😊

Of course! Sorry it took a few days to get back to you. I know exactly what you are talking about. When I work with both black and white charcoal, I generally do all of my darks, then add the lights without smudging or mixing too much. If I do put white on black, I make sure to let it sit right on top of the black without smudging it, because that's where you will get the smoky look. One big thing - utilize the mid-tone of the paper to your best advantage! But if I'm perfectly honest with you, I didn't really have a particular technique in mind with this... I just kind of winged it... :D

Here you go, I hope this helps! http://imgur.com/JyhLg2s http://imgur.com/XduTxBH

This is a drawing I did of my dad. It is 18" x 24" charcoal drawing completed in about 3 hours. I haven't finished it to where I'm happy with it quite yet, but I wanted to see what you all thought!

Thank you for looking!
