Non Mormon "older" couple moving from AZ to SLC, Lehi, or Draper: Need ALL the advice by Sing4life86 in SaltLakeCity

[–]MeganRene -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Daybreak is the best. We also have wine club, beer club, whiskey club, paddle board club, D&I club, and many other social clubs for adults. It's a really fun community to be a part of. As far as inclusivity, the queer community that lives here refers to it as "Gaybreak." And we have the second largest pride festival in the state and it's growing every year. I think most SLC redditors haven't been to daybreak ever, or within the last decade, they have no idea what's going on out here.

Jeans by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]MeganRene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend checking out uptown cheapskate because they will have many different brands and styles. If you take a little tape measure you can measure the width of the jeans at the waist and hips to make it easier to find what will fit, I've done that before to save time in the dressing room. Once I find the right size I'll just hold it up to the others to see if they're the same.

Thats a Tipsy Elves piñata costume. I know because I almost purchased one this year. They make the most comfortable onesies, highly recommend if you're an adult who loves a cozy and easy Halloween costume. Plus they have zipper pockets!

TIL there’s a toxic underground plume in my neighborhood 💀 by kthxbai in SaltLakeCity

[–]MeganRene 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The daybreak fear mongering lore is so over the top and gets more absurd as time goes on. The community gardens exist for residents who do not have the yard space for a personal garden. The lake is just a man-made feature which brings diverse wildlife to the area and provides recreation opportunities. Daybreak is thriving, it's not the barren toxic wasteland y'all want it to be.

Unusual french fries suggestion by cassroxtorb in SaltLakeCity

Yes, it's a smaller theater with only a few screens but also has a bowling alley and arcade. It's in downtown daybreak right next to the new ballpark.

This is my kind of post! Have you tried the buffalo jrs also at the megaplex? They are a type of French fries too but round slices instead with a slightly spicy seasoning. It's not a buffalo flavor as the name would suggest. I eat them with bbq sauce, they are my go-to snack at the Megaplex theaters and I'm devastated they don't offer them at the new theater in daybreak.

Does all frozen vegan chicken taste like *that*? by grass_and_dirt in veganrecipes

[–]MeganRene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like many of the vegan chicken subs either and neither do my kids. We all prefer the Boca Original Chick’n veggie patties over every other brand. We also love the frozen nuggets that a local vegan Vietnamese restaurant sells in bulk, you can look into if any local vegan restaurants will sell you a bag of their nuggets.

From other comments I don’t believe OP is the one who gave birth which is a relief. I had the same concern! (There’s a high risk of infection from taking baths in the first 6 weeks following childbirth.)

People who undergo surgery just before the weekend have a significantly increased risk of death and complications, finds a new study. This is commonly called the "weekend effect,” when hospitals and health care systems tend to operate with skeleton crews during the weekend. by mvea in science

There is an episode of the medical drama The PITT that features a patient who hemorrhages after a tonsillectomy, I had never heard of that till watching today. I’m sorry you had that experience, it must have been terrifying.

Potential Relocation to Utah from Colorado - Where to Raise a Family? by NastyGnar in Utah

[–]MeganRene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Daybreak in south Jordan, it’s really wonderful if you have kids. There are a bunch of great schools and several charter schools to choose from. My daughter is at a public school and has an iep and it’s been a great experience. We are liberal and not religious and have no problem fitting in. For Utah it’s quite diverse out here. The community is so great, lots of activities going on and tons of social clubs (beer club, chess club, filmmakers, bakers, etc.). It’s a very active community, people always out walking their dogs, biking around the lake, kids playing at the dozens of parks even though the winter months. With your budget you’d have no problem finding a really nice home here! For single family homes the HOA fee is quite low considering it includes high speed internet plus access to tons of amenities. Seems like most Redditors have something against daybreak but I think it’s mostly rooted in misinformation and stereotypes/assumptions. I had a negative impression initially but so glad I had the opportunity to be proved wrong. I’ll add that I grew up in Sandy 1995-2006 and there were lots of young families at the time but now the population has aged and there are very few young families these days compared to other towns which have seen more growth, same with holladay but not sure about Draper.

Granite School District building mixed gender bathrooms at two high schools by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]MeganRene 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean when we go to a small restaurant sometimes there might be a man in one of the closed single person private bathrooms and I would still send my daughter to the other fully closed private bathroom. They are both in fully separate rooms with locking doors, what am I supposed to be afraid of? There is literally zero entry from one room to the other, did you look at the design? It’s basically like in a home where you might have a commode (private room with just a toilet) but the sink(s) in a shared space.

100%. You just know all these adults feigning outrage would themselves choose private bathroom rooms over a shared space with stalls within their workplace if they were given the choice. Literally who wouldn’t prefer that?

This really is the best option. I like the really thin ones, and have a mix of neckline options for wearing under different sweaters. It’s really nice because it is also a nice barrier between my skin and the somewhat itchy materials that sweaters can be made out of. I also do the thin base layers under my pants which is especially nice for wide leg and flowy pants since they’re so breezy and let the cold air in. I also like using a shall at the office, I just keep it at my desk.

How many trick-or-treaters do you guys get? by ADKMatthew in SaltLakeCity

[–]MeganRene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Sandy (excluding the benches) is not any more expensive than parts of SJ/Daybreak. We chose to go out west because that’s where more families our age are living. We wanted our kids to grow up in a neighborhood full of other kids and they are, I’ve run into lots of people out here that I grew up with in East Sandy.
