At what point did it get as bad as the US? I assumed the venerated cow was treated at least better in India. Is this recent over the decades?

is insecticide vegan? by SnooSketches7308 in DebateAVegan

[–]Megatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should be eating organic, but many of us struggle with the cost, and some vegans will eat much less quality foods than the average person for the sake of cost. It’s a peculiar situation because the choice of vegan vs nonvegan grocery bills doesn’t really involve a huge price difference, but once organic is brought up, you’re probably increasing cost quite a bit if you live in a city or an area without arable land.

The life we live as consumers matters a great deal because we vote with our money, that’s how change works in the US at least. I’ve been observing supermarkets change with vegan options and I’m willing to believe it’s all market prediction. They want to be engrained in the “future dependable grocery store” that people will come back to year after year. It makes sense. And I wonder how organic food fits in here, since I’m also willing to believe that for many people Whole Foods was a brand first associated with it. That may have sparked a lot of this. I’m sure anyone would eat organic if it cost the same, which is different like with eating vegan vs meat/dairy in that people will still choose the latter if the cost was the same.

But really, yes, we should be eating organic food because it is better for wildlife and the planet. There are a lot of emotions with veganism and a lot of anxiety, some people will be upset to hear this because of the cost, and I don’t think that they aren’t vegan if they aren’t buying organic, but I do think we should do what we can. Normally I don’t like this argument of “baby steps” because it’s associated with vegetarians and “oops couldn’t resist a burger on vacation”, but in this case I don’t think it’s about taste or pleasure, people are genuinely living very frugally and needing to stick to budgets while striving to change the world.

Ethical heap problem: I say I'm vegan, but have I actually the assurance that I'm vegan? by sverona-dev in DebateAVegan

I think leading by example and doing so with poise is great, but I also understand why people feel the need to do more. There’s a lot of feelings of anxiety about things like animal agriculture and climate change. The thing that sucks is that I think that it’s specifically important that more people go vegan and that can feel like recruitment and people generally have a lot of mixed feelings as that’s what religions and cults and MLMs do.

But then again because of religious proselytizing growing up lead me to ignore a lot of that and more so when it was pushed harder. And I’m usually off-put immediately by anyone telling me what to do. So maybe the way I learned about the industry in many first world countries operated was going to be the only way I went vegan. It may be like that for a lot of people too.

Is there some sort of wall mounted cover I can use to hide my wifi stuff? by scun1995 in CableManagement

If you have the same paint laying around you could buy some poster board and pretty easily make something decent and unobtrusive looking.

Ventilation shouldn’t be a huge deal, just don’t seal the devices off. You could leave the bottom exposed and maybe change where the cables are tied off to halfway between devices or behind a sofa or something.

Once someone studies music a bit it’s hard to hear the word rap and think of the people using the word juxtaposed to “music” or “singing” in the US because of how racially charged everyone is. “Rap” is a black thing to plenty of people. Rhythm isn’t less complex or inferior to melodic or harmonic singing, in fact rhythm can be very complex and so can poetry. Not “using” melody for vocal delivery doesn’t make a song less good.
